The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they could not find any.

Yet their testimony did not agree even on this.

“Why do we need any more testimony,” they said, “since we’ve heard it ourselves from his mouth? ”

He came as a witness to testify about the light, so that all might believe through him.[fn]

This was John’s testimony when the Jews from Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him, “Who are you? ”

“Truly I tell you, we speak what we know and we testify to what we have seen, but you do not accept our testimony.

He testifies to what he has seen and heard, and yet no one accepts his testimony.

“If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true.

“I don’t receive human testimony, but I say these things so that you may be saved.

“But I have a greater testimony than John’s because of the works that the Father has given me to accomplish. These very works I am doing testify about me that the Father has sent me.

So the Pharisees said to him, “You are testifying about yourself. Your testimony is not valid.”

“Even in your law it is written that the testimony of two witnesses is true.

He who saw this has testified so that you also may believe. His testimony is true, and he knows he is telling the truth.

This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true.

“and saw him telling me, ‘Hurry and get out of Jerusalem quickly, because they will not accept your testimony about me.’

Furthermore, he must have a good reputation among outsiders, so that he does not fall into disgrace and the devil’s trap.

This testimony is true. For this reason, rebuke them sharply, so that they may be sound in the faith

If we accept human testimony, God’s testimony is greater, because it is God’s testimony that he has given about his Son.

Everyone speaks well of Demetrius ​— ​even the truth itself. And we also speak well of him, and you know that our testimony is true.

They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
