“So you testify against yourselves that you are descendants of those who murdered the prophets.
They were all speaking well of him[fn] and were amazed by the gracious words that came from his mouth; yet they said, “Isn’t this Joseph’s son? ”
He came as a witness to testify about the light, so that all might believe through him.[fn]
(John testified concerning him and exclaimed, “This was the one of whom I said, ‘The one coming after me ranks ahead of me, because he existed before me.’ ”)
And John testified, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and he rested on him.
and because he did not need anyone to testify about man; for he himself knew what was in man.
“Truly I tell you, we speak what we know and we testify to what we have seen, but you do not accept our testimony.

This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true.
