The Commendation of Wisdom

1 Does not wisdom ^H2451 call ^H7121,

And understanding ^H8394 [fn]raise ^H5414 her voice ^H6963?

2 On top ^H7218 of the heights ^H4791 beside ^H5921 the way ^H1870,

Where ^H1004 the paths ^H5410 meet ^H1004, she takes ^H5324 her stand ^H5324;

3 Beside ^H3027 the gates ^H8179, at the opening ^H6310 to the city ^H7176,

At the entrance ^H3996 of the doors ^H6607, she cries ^H7442 out ^H7442:

4 “To you, people ^H376, I call ^H7121,

And my voice ^H6963 is to [fn]mankind ^H1121 H120.

5 “You naive ^H6612 ones ^H6612, understand ^H995 prudence ^H6195;

And, you fools ^H3684, understand ^H995 [fn]wisdom ^H3820!

6 “Listen ^H8085, for I will speak ^H1696 noble ^H5057 things ^H5057;

And the opening ^H4669 of my lips ^H8193 will reveal right ^H4339 things ^H4339.

7 “For my mouth ^H2441 will proclaim ^H1897 truth ^H571;

And wickedness ^H7562 is an abomination ^H8441 to my lips ^H8193.

8 “All ^H3605 the words ^H561 of my mouth ^H6310 are in righteousness ^H6664;

There ^H369 is ^H369 nothing ^H369 crooked ^H6617 or perverted ^H6141 in them.

9 “They are all ^H3605 straightforward ^H5228 to him who understands ^H995,

And right ^H3477 to those who find ^H4672 knowledge ^H1847.

10 “Accept ^H3947 my instruction ^H4148 and not silver ^H3701,

And knowledge ^H1847 rather ^H4480 than ^H4480 choice ^H977 gold ^H2742.

11 “For wisdom ^H2451 is better ^H2896 than ^H4480 [fn]jewels ^H6443;

And all ^H3605 desirable ^H2656 things ^H2656 cannot ^H3808 compare ^H7737 with her.

12 “I, wisdom ^H2451, dwell ^H7931 with prudence ^H6195,

And I find ^H4672 knowledge ^H1847 and discretion ^H4209.

13 “The fear ^H3374 of the LORD ^H3068 is to hate ^H8130 evil ^H7451;

Pride ^H1344, arrogance ^H1344, the evil ^H7451 way ^H1870,

And the perverted ^H8419 mouth ^H6310, I hate ^H8130.

14 “Advice ^H6098 is mine and sound ^H8454 wisdom ^H8454;

I am understanding ^H998, power ^H1369 is mine.

15 “By me kings ^H4428 reign ^H4427,

And rulers ^H7336 decree ^H2710 justice ^H6664.

16 “By me princes ^H8269 rule ^H8323, and nobles ^H5081,

All ^H3605 who judge ^H8199 rightly ^H6664.

17 “I love ^H157 those who love ^H157 me;

And those who diligently ^H7836 seek ^H7836 me will find ^H4672 me.

18 “Riches ^H6239 and honor ^H3519 are with me,

Enduring ^H6276 wealth ^H1952 and righteousness ^H6666.

19 “My fruit ^H6529 is better ^H2896 than ^H4480 gold ^H2742, even pure ^H6337 gold ^H6337;

And my yield ^H8393 better than ^H4480 choice ^H977 silver ^H3701.

20 “I walk ^H1980 in the way ^H734 of righteousness ^H6666,

In the midst ^H8432 of the paths ^H5410 of justice ^H4941,

21 To endow ^H5157 those who love ^H157 me with wealth ^H3426,

That I may fill ^H4390 their treasuries ^H214.

22 “The LORD ^H3068 [fn]created ^H7069 me at the beginning ^H7225 of His way ^H1870,

Before ^H6924 His works ^H4659 [fn]of ^H227 old ^H227.

23 “From eternity ^H5769 I was [fn]established ^H5258,

From the beginning ^H7218, from the earliest ^H6924 times ^H6924 of the earth ^H776.

24 “When there ^H369 were ^H369 no ^H369 ocean ^H8415 depths ^H8415, I was born ^H2342,

When there ^H369 were ^H369 no ^H369 springs ^H4599 abounding ^H3513 with water ^H4325.

25 “Before ^H2962 the mountains ^H2022 were settled ^H2883,

Before ^H6440 the hills ^H1389, I was born ^H2342;

26 While ^H5704 He had not yet made ^H6213 the earth ^H776 and the [fn]fields ^H2351,

Nor ^H3808 the first ^H7218 dust ^H6083 of the world ^H8398.

27 “When He established ^H3559 the heavens ^H8064, I was there ^H8033;

When He inscribed ^H2710 a circle ^H2329 on the face ^H6440 of the deep ^H8415,

28 When He made ^H553 firm ^H553 the skies ^H7834 above ^H4480 H4605,

When the springs ^H5869 of the deep ^H8415 became ^H5810 [fn]fixed ^H5810,

29 When He set ^H7760 a boundary ^H2706 for the sea ^H3220

So that the water ^H4325 would not violate ^H5674 His [fn]command ^H6310,

When He marked ^H2710 out ^H2710 the foundations ^H4144 of the earth ^H776;

30 Then I was beside ^H681 Him, as a master ^H525 workman ^H525;

And I was His delight ^H8191 daily ^H3117,

[fn]Rejoicing ^H7832 always ^H3605 H6256 before ^H6440 Him,

31 [fn]Rejoicing ^H7832 in the world ^H8398, His earth ^H776,

And having my delight ^H8191 in the sons ^H1121 of mankind ^H120.

32 “Now ^H6258 then, sons ^H1121, listen ^H8085 to me,

For blessed ^H835 are those who keep ^H8104 my ways ^H1870.

33 “Listen ^H8085 to instruction ^H4148 and be ^H2449 wise ^H2449,

And do not neglect ^H6544 it.

34 “Blessed ^H835 is the person ^H120 who listens ^H8085 to me,

Watching ^H8245 daily ^H3117 at my gates ^H1817,

Waiting ^H8104 at my doorposts ^H4201.

35 “For one who finds ^H4672 me finds ^H4672 life ^H2416,

And obtains ^H6329 favor ^H7522 from the LORD ^H3068.

36 “But one who [fn]sins ^H2398 against me injures ^H2554 himself ^H5315;

All ^H3605 those who hate ^H8130 me love ^H157 death ^H4194.”
