Parable of the Marriage Feast
1 Jesus G2424 spoke G3004 to them again G3825 in parables G3850, saying G3004,
2 “The kingdom G932 of heaven G3772 [fn]is G3666 like G3666 [fn]a king G444 G935 who G3748 [fn]held G4160 a wedding G1062 feast G1062 for his son G5207. 3 And he sent G649 his slaves G1401 to call G2564 those G3588 who had been invited G2564 to the wedding G1062 feast G1062, and they were unwilling G3756 G2309 to come G2064. 4 Again G3825 he sent G649 other G243 slaves G1401, saying G3004, ‘Tell G3004 those G3588 who have been invited G2564, “Behold G2400, I have prepared G2090 my dinner G712; my oxen G5022 and my fattened G4619 cattle G4619 are all butchered G2380 and everything G3956 is ready G2092. Come G1205 to the wedding G1062 feast G1062!”’ 5 But they paid G272 no G272 attention G272 and went G565 their separate ways G565, one G3739 to his own G2398 [fn]farm G68, another G3739 G1161 to his business G1711, 6 and the rest G3062 seized G2902 his slaves G1401 and treated G5195 them abusively G5195, and then killed G615 them. 7 Now the king G935 was G3710 angry G3710, and he sent G3992 his armies G4753 and destroyed G622 those G1565 murderers G5406 and set G4092 their city G4172 on G4092 fire G4092. 8 Then G5119 he *said G3004 to his slaves G1401, ‘The wedding G1062 feast G1062 is ready G2092, but those G3588 who were invited G2564 were not worthy G514. 9 So G3767 go G4198 to the main G1327 roads G3598, and invite G2564 whomever G3745 G1437 you find G2147 there to the wedding G1062 feast G1062.’ 10 Those G1565 slaves G1401 went G1831 out G1831 into the streets G3598 and gathered G4863 together G4863 all G3956 whom G3739 they found G2147, both G5037 bad G4190 and good G18; and the wedding G3567 hall G3567 was filled G4130 with [fn]dinner G345 guests G345.
11 “But when the king G935 came G1525 in G1525 to look G2300 over G2300 the [fn]dinner G345 guests G345, he saw G3708 a man G444 there G1563 who was not dressed G1746 in wedding G1062 clothes G1742, 12 and he *said G3004 to him, ‘Friend G2083, how G4459 did you get G1525 in G1525 here G5602 without G3361 G2192 wedding G1062 clothes G1742?’ And the man was speechless G5392. 13 Then G5119 the king G935 said G3004 to the servants G1249, ‘Tie G1210 his hands G5495 and feet G4228, and throw G1544 him into the outer G1857 darkness G4655; there will be weeping G2805 and gnashing G1030 of teeth G3599 in G1563 that G1563 place G1563.’ 14 For many G4183 are [fn]called G2822, but few G3641 are chosen G1588.”
Poll-tax to Caesar
15 Then G5119 the Pharisees G5330 went G4198 and [fn]plotted G4824 G2983 together G4824 how G3704 they might trap G3802 Him [fn]in what He said G3056.
16 And they *sent G649 their disciples G3101 to Him, along with the Herodians G2265, saying G3004, “Teacher G1320, we know G6063 that You are truthful G227 and teach G1321 the way G3598 of God G2316 in truth G225, and [fn]do not care G3199 what anyone G3762 thinks; for You [fn]are not partial G991 G4383 to anyone G3762. 17 Tell G3004 us then G3767, what G5101 do You think G1380? Is it [fn]permissible G1832 to pay G1325 a [fn]poll-tax G2778 to Caesar G2541, or G2228 not?” 18 But Jesus G2424 perceived G1097 their [fn]malice G4189, and said G3004, “Why G5101 are you testing G3985 Me, you hypocrites G5273? 19 Show G1925 Me the coin G3546 used for the poll-tax G2778.” And they brought G4374 Him a [fn]denarius G1220. 20 And He *said G3004 to them, “Whose G5101 image G1504 and inscription G1923 is this G3778?” 21 They *said G3004 to Him, “Caesar’s G2541.” Then G5119 He *said G3004 to them, “Then G3767 pay G591 to Caesar G2541 the things that are Caesar’s G2541; and to God G2316 the things that are God’s G2316.” 22 And hearing G191 this, they were amazed G2296; and they left G863 Him and went G565 away G565.
Jesus Answers the Sadducees
23 On that day G2250 some Sadducees G4523 (who say G3004 there is no G3361 resurrection G386) came G4334 to [fn]Jesus and questioned G1905 Him,
24 saying G3004, “Teacher G1320, Moses G3475 said G3004, ‘If G1437 a man G5100 dies G599 having G2192 no G3361 children G5043, his brother G80 as G1918 next G1918 of G1918 kin G1918 shall marry G1918 his wife G1135, and raise G450 up G450 [fn]children G4690 for his brother G80.’ 25 Now G1161 there were seven G2033 brothers G80 among G3844 us; and the first G4413 married G1060 and died G5053, and having G2192 no G3361 [fn]children G4690, he left G863 his wife G1135 to his brother G80. 26 It was the same G3668 also G2532 with the second G1208 brother, and the third G5154, down G2193 to G2193 the seventh G2033. 27 Last G5305 of all G3956, the woman G1135 died G599. 28 In the resurrection G386, therefore G3767, whose G5101 wife G1135 of the seven G2033 will she be? For they all G3956 had G2192 her in marriage.”
29 But Jesus G2424 answered G611 and said G3004 to them, “You are mistaken G4105, since you do not [fn]understand G6063 the Scriptures G1124 nor G3366 the power G1411 of God G2316. 30 For in the resurrection G386 they neither G3777 marry G1060 nor G3777 are given G1061 in G1061 marriage G1061, but are like G5613 angels G32 in heaven G3772. 31 But regarding G4012 the resurrection G386 of the dead G3498, have you not read G314 what G3588 was spoken G3004 to you by God G2316: 32 ‘I AM G1510 THE GOD G2316 OF ABRAHAM G11, THE GOD G2316 OF ISAAC G2464, AND THE GOD G2316 OF JACOB G2384’? He is not the God G2316 of the dead G3498, but of the living G2198.” 33 When the crowds G3793 heard G191 this, they were astonished G1605 at His teaching G1322.
34 But when the Pharisees G5330 heard G191 that Jesus had silenced G5392 the Sadducees G4523, they gathered G4863 together G1909 G3588 G846. 35 And one G1520 of them, [fn]a lawyer G3544, asked G1905 Him a G1905 question G1905, testing G3985 Him: 36 “Teacher G1320, which G4169 is the great G3173 commandment G1785 in the Law G3551?” 37 And He said G5346 to him, “‘YOU SHALL LOVE G25 THE LORD G2962 YOUR GOD G2316 WITH ALL G3650 YOUR HEART G2588, AND WITH ALL G3650 YOUR SOUL G5590, AND WITH ALL G3650 YOUR MIND G1271.’ 38 This G3778 is the great G3173 and [fn]foremost G4413 commandment G1785. 39 The second G1208 is like G3664 it, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE G25 YOUR NEIGHBOR G4139 AS YOURSELF G4572.’ 40 Upon these G3778 two G1417 commandments G1785 [fn]hang G2910 the whole G3650 Law G3551 and the Prophets G4396.”
41 Now G1161 while the Pharisees G5330 were gathered G4863 together G4863, Jesus G2424 asked G1905 them a G1905 question G1905: 42 “What G5101 do you think G1380 about G4012 the [fn]Christ G5547? Whose G5101 son G5207 is He?” They *said G3004 to Him, “The son of David G1138.” 43 He *said G3004 to them, “Then G3767 [fn]how G4459 does David G1138 [fn]in the Spirit G4151 call G2564 Him ‘Lord G2962,’ saying G3004,
44 ‘THE LORD G2962 SAID G3004 TO MY LORD G2962,
“SIT G2521 AT MY RIGHT G1188 HAND G1188,
UNTIL G2193 I PUT G5087 YOUR ENEMIES G2190 UNDER G5270 YOUR FEET G4228”’?
45 Therefore G3767, if G1487 David G1138 calls G2564 Him ‘Lord G2962,’ [fn]how G4459 is He his son G5207?” 46 No G3762 one G3762 was able G1410 to offer G611 Him a word G3056 in G611 answer G611, nor G3761 did anyone G5100 dare G5111 from that day G2250 on to ask G1905 Him any G3765 more G3765 questions G1905.
