The Transfiguration

1 And Jesus was saying ^G3004 to them, “Truly ^G281 I say ^G3004 to you, there are some ^G5100 of those ^G3588 who are standing ^G2476 here ^G5602 who ^G3748 will not taste ^G1089 death ^G2288 until ^G2193 they see ^G3708 the kingdom ^G932 of God ^G2316 when it has come ^G2064 with power ^G1411.”

2 And six ^G1803 days ^G2250 later ^G3326 Jesus ^G2424 *took ^G3880 with Him Peter ^G4074, [fn]James ^G2385, and John ^G2491, and *brought ^G399 them up ^G399 on a high ^G5308 mountain ^G3735 by themselves ^G2398 G3441. And He was [fn]transfigured ^G3339 before ^G1715 them;

3 and His garments ^G2440 became ^G1096 radiant ^G4744 and exceedingly ^G3029 white ^G3022, as no ^G3756 launderer ^G1102 on earth ^G1093 can ^G1410 whiten ^G3021 them. 4 And Elijah ^G2243 appeared ^G3708 to them along ^G4862 with Moses ^G3475; and they were talking ^G4814 with Jesus ^G2424. 5 Peter ^G4074 responded ^G611 and *said ^G3004 to Jesus ^G2424, “Rabbi ^G4461, it is good ^G2570 that we are here ^G5602; let’s make ^G4160 three ^G5140 [fn]tabernacles ^G4633, one ^G1520 for You, one ^G1520 for Moses ^G3475, and one ^G1520 for Elijah ^G2243.” 6 For he did not know ^G6063 how ^G5101 to reply ^G611; for they became ^G1096 terrified ^G1630. 7 Then ^G2532 a cloud ^G3507 [fn]formed ^G1096, overshadowing ^G1982 them, and a voice ^G5456 [fn]came ^G1096 out of the cloud ^G3507: “This ^G3778 is My beloved ^G27 Son ^G5207; [fn]listen ^G191 to Him!” 8 And suddenly ^G1819 they looked ^G4017 around ^G4017 and saw ^G3708 no ^G3762 one ^G3762 with them anymore ^G3765, except ^G1508 Jesus ^G2424 alone ^G3441.

9 As they were coming ^G2597 down ^G2597 from the mountain ^G3735, He gave ^G1291 them orders ^G1291 not to relate ^G1334 to anyone ^G3367 what ^G3739 they had seen ^G3708, [fn]until ^{G1487 G3361 G3752} the Son ^G5207 of Man ^G444 rose ^G450 from the dead ^G3498. 10 They [fn]seized ^G2902 upon [fn]that statement ^G3056, discussing ^G4802 with one ^G1438 another ^G1438 [fn]what ^G5101 rising ^G450 from the dead ^G3498 meant ^G1510. 11 And they asked ^G1905 Him, saying ^G3004, “Why is it that the scribes ^G1122 say ^G3004 that Elijah ^G2243 must ^G1163 come ^G2064 first ^G4413?” 12 And He said ^G5346 to them, “Elijah ^G2243 does come ^G2064 first ^G4413 and he restores ^G600 all ^G3956 things ^G3956. And yet how ^G4459 is it written ^G1125 of the Son ^G5207 of Man ^G444 that He will suffer ^G3958 many ^G4183 things ^G4183 and be treated ^G1847 with ^G1847 contempt ^G1847? 13 But I say ^G3004 to you that Elijah ^G2243 has [fn]indeed ^G2532 come ^G2064, and they did ^G4160 to him whatever ^G3745 they wanted ^G2309, just ^G2531 as ^G2531 it is written ^G1125 of him.”

All Things Possible

14 And when they came ^G2064 back to the other disciples ^G3101, they saw ^G3708 a large ^G4183 crowd ^G3793 around ^G4012 them, and some scribes ^G1122 arguing ^G4802 with them.

15 Immediately ^G2117, when the entire ^G3956 crowd ^G3793 saw ^G3708 Him, they were amazed ^G1568 and began running ^G4370 up ^G4370 to greet ^G782 Him. 16 And He asked ^G1905 them, “What ^G5101 are you disputing ^G4802 with them?” 17 And one ^G1520 person from the crowd ^G3793 answered ^G611 Him, “Teacher ^G1320, I brought ^G5342 You my son ^G5207, because he has ^G2192 a spirit ^G4151 that makes him unable ^G216 to ^G216 speak ^G216; 18 and [fn]whenever ^G3699 it seizes ^G2638 him, it slams ^G4486 him to ^G4486 the ^G4486 ground ^G4486, and he foams ^G875 at the mouth and grinds ^G5149 his teeth ^G3599 and becomes stiff ^G3583. How ^G2193 long ^G2193 G4219 shall I put ^G430 up ^G430 with you? Bring ^G5342 him to Me!” 20 And they brought ^G5342 [fn]the boy to Him. When ^G2532 he saw ^G3708 Him, the spirit ^G4151 immediately ^G2117 threw ^G4952 him into ^G4952 convulsions ^G4952, and falling ^G4098 to the ground ^G1093, he began rolling ^G2947 around ^G2947 and foaming ^G875 at the mouth. 21 And He asked ^G1905 his father ^G3962, “How ^G4214 long ^G5550 has this ^G3778 been ^G1510 happening ^G1096 to him?” And he said ^G3004, “From childhood ^G3812. 22 It has often ^G4178 thrown ^G906 him both ^G2532 into the fire ^G4442 and into the water ^G5204 to kill ^G622 him. All ^G3956 things ^G3956 are possible ^G1415 for the one who believes ^G4100.” 24 Immediately ^G2117 the boy’s ^G3813 father ^G3962 cried ^G2896 out ^G2896 and said ^G3004, “I do believe ^G4100; help ^G997 my unbelief ^G570!” 25 When Jesus ^G2424 saw ^G3708 that a crowd ^G3793 was [fn]rapidly ^G1998 gathering ^G1998, He rebuked ^G2008 the unclean ^G169 spirit ^G4151, saying ^G3004 to it, “You mute ^G216 and deaf ^G2974 spirit ^G4151, I [fn]command ^G2004 you, come ^G1831 out ^G1831 of him and do not enter ^G1525 him [fn]again ^G3371!” 26 And after crying ^G2896 out ^G2896 and throwing ^G4682 him into ^G4682 terrible ^G4183 convulsions ^G4682, it came ^G1831 out ^G1831; and the boy became ^G1096 so ^G5620 much ^G5620 like ^G5616 a corpse ^G3498 that ^G5620 most ^G4183 of them said ^G3004, “He is dead ^G599!” 27 But Jesus ^G2424 took ^G2902 him by the hand ^G5495 and raised ^G1453 him, and he got ^G450 up ^G450. 28 When He came ^G1525 into the house ^G3624, His disciples ^G3101 began asking ^G1905 Him privately ^G2596 G2398, “Why is it that we could ^G1410 not cast ^G1544 it out ^G1544?” 29 And He said ^G3004 to them, “This ^G3778 kind ^G1085 cannot ^G1410 G3762 come ^G1831 out ^G1831 by anything ^G3762 except ^G1487 G3361 prayer ^G4335.”

Death and Resurrection Foretold

30 And from ^G2547 there ^G2547 they went ^G1831 out ^G1831 and began to go ^G3899 through ^G1223 Galilee ^G1056, and He did not want ^G2309 anyone ^G5100 to know ^G1097 about it.

31 For He was teaching ^G1321 His disciples ^G3101 and telling ^G3004 them, “The Son ^G5207 of Man ^G444 is to be [fn]handed ^G3860 G5495 over ^G3860 to men ^G444, and they will kill ^G615 Him; and when He has been killed ^G615, He will rise ^G450 three ^G5140 days ^G2250 later ^G3326.” 32 But they [fn]did not understand ^G50 this statement ^G4487, and they were ^G5399 afraid ^G5399 to ask ^G1905 Him.

33 They came ^G2064 to Capernaum ^G2584; and when He was in the house ^G3614, He began to question ^G1905 them: “What ^G5101 were you discussing ^G1260 on the way ^G3598?” 34 But they kept ^G4623 silent ^G4623, for on the way ^G3598 they had discussed ^G1256 with one ^G240 another ^G240 which ^G5101 of them was the greatest ^G3173. 35 And sitting ^G2523 down ^G2523, He called ^G5455 the twelve ^G1427 and *said ^G3004 to them, “If ^G1487 anyone ^G5100 wants ^G2309 to be first ^G4413, he shall be last ^G2078 of all ^G3956 and servant ^G1249 of all ^G3956.” 36 And He took ^G2983 a child ^G3813 and placed ^G2476 him among ^G1722 G3319 them, and taking ^G1723 him in ^G1723 His arms ^G1723, He said ^G3004 to them, 37 “Whoever ^G3739 G302 [fn]receives ^G1209 [fn]one ^G1520 child ^G3813 like ^G5108 this ^G5108 in My name ^G3686 [fn]receives ^G1209 Me; and whoever ^G3739 G302 [fn]receives ^G1209 Me does not [fn]receive ^G1209 Me, but Him who sent ^G649 Me.”

Dire Warnings

38 John ^G2491 said ^G5346 to Him, “Teacher ^G1320, we saw ^G3708 someone ^G5100 casting ^G1544 out ^G1544 demons ^G1140 in Your name ^G3686, and we tried to prevent ^G2967 him because ^G3754 he was not following ^G190 us.”

39 But Jesus ^G2424 said ^G3004, “Do not hinder ^G2967 him, for there is no ^G3762 one ^G3762 who ^G3739 will perform ^G4160 a miracle ^G1411 in My name ^G3686, and be able ^G1410 soon ^G5035 afterward to speak ^G2551 evil ^G2551 of ^G2551 Me. 40 For the one who ^G3739 is not against ^G2596 us is [fn]for us. 41 For whoever ^G3739 G302 gives ^G4222 you a cup ^G4221 of water ^G5204 to ^G4222 drink ^G4222 [fn]because ^G3754 of your name ^G3686 as followers of Christ ^G5547, truly ^G281 I say ^G3004 to you, he shall by no ^G3364 means ^G3364 lose ^G622 his reward ^G3408.

42 “Whoever ^G3739 causes ^G4624 one ^G1520 of these ^G3778 [fn]little ^G3398 ones ^G3398 who believe ^G4100 in Me to ^G4624 [fn]sin ^G4624, it is better ^G2570 G3123 for him if ^G1487 a heavy ^G3684 millstone ^G3458 is hung ^G4029 around ^G4012 his neck ^G5137 and he [fn]is thrown ^G906 into the sea ^G2281. 43 And if ^G1437 your hand ^G5495 causes ^G4624 you to ^G4624 sin ^G4624, cut ^G609 it off ^G609; it is better ^G2570 for you to enter ^G1525 life ^G2222 maimed ^G2948, than ^G2228, having ^G2192 your two ^G1417 hands ^G5495, to go ^G565 into [fn]hell ^G1067, into the unquenchable ^G762 fire ^G4442. 44 [fn] 45 And if ^G1437 your foot ^G4228 is causing ^G4624 you to ^G4624 sin ^G4624, cut ^G609 it off ^G609; it is better ^G2570 for you to enter ^G1525 life ^G2222 without ^G5560 a ^G5560 foot ^G5560, than ^G2228, having ^G2192 your two ^G1417 feet ^G4228, to be thrown ^G906 into [fn]hell ^G1067. 46 [fn] 47 And if ^G1437 your eye ^G3788 is causing ^G4624 you to ^G4624 sin ^G4624, throw ^G1544 it away ^G1544; it is better ^G2570 for you to enter ^G1525 the kingdom ^G932 of God ^G2316 with one ^G3442 eye ^G3442, than ^G2228, having ^G2192 two ^G1417 eyes ^G3788, to be thrown ^G1544 into [fn]hell ^G1067, 48 where ^G3699 THEIR WORM ^G4663 DOES NOT DIE ^G5053, AND THE FIRE ^G4442 IS NOT EXTINGUISHED ^G4570. 49 For everyone ^G3956 will be salted ^G233 with fire ^G4442. 50 Salt ^G217 is good ^G2570; but if ^G1437 the salt ^G217 becomes ^G1096 unsalty ^G358, with what ^G5101 will you [fn]make ^G741 it salty ^G741 again? Have ^G2192 salt ^G217 in yourselves ^G1438, and be ^G1514 at ^G1514 peace ^G1514 with one ^G240 another ^G240.”
