Esther’s Plea
1 Now the king H4428 and Haman H2001 came H935 to drink H8354 wine with Esther H635 the queen H4436.
2 And the king H4428 said H559 to Esther H635 on the second H8145 day H3117 also H1571 [fn]as they drank H4960 their wine H3196 at H4960 the H4960 banquet H4960, “What H4100 is your request H7596, Queen H4436 Esther H635? It shall be granted H5414 you. And what H4100 is your wish H1246? Up to half H2677 of the kingdom H4438 it shall be done H6213.” 3 Then Queen H4436 Esther H635 replied H6030, “If H518 I have found H4672 favor H2580 in your sight H5869, O king H4428, and if H518 it pleases H2895 the king H4428, let my life H5315 be given H5414 me as my request H7596, and my people H5971 as my wish H1246; 4 for we have been sold H4376, I and my people H5971, to be destroyed H8045, killed H2026, and eliminated H6. Now if H432 we had only been sold H4376 as slaves H8198 H5650, men H5650 and women H8198, I would have kept H2790 silent H2790, because H3588 the distress H6862 would not be sufficient H7737 reason to burden H5143 the king H4428.” 5 Then King H4428 Ahasuerus H325 [fn]asked H559 Queen H4436 Esther H635, “Who H4310 is he, and where H335 is he, [fn]who H834 would presume H4390 H3820 to do H6213 such H3651 a thing?” 6 And Esther H635 said H559, “A foe H6862 and an enemy H340 is this H2088 wicked H7451 Haman H2001!” Then Haman H2001 became terrified H1204 before H4480 H6440 the king H4428 and queen H4436.
Haman Is Hanged
7 The king H4428 then got H6965 up H6965 in his anger H2534 from [fn]drinking H4960 wine H3196 and went into the palace H1055 garden H1593; but Haman H2001 stayed H5975 to beg H1245 for his life H5315 from Queen H4436 Esther H635, for he saw H7200 that harm H7451 had been determined H3615 against H413 him by the king H4428. 8 Now when the king H4428 returned H7725 from the palace H1055 garden H1593 into the [fn]place H1004 where they had been drinking H4960 wine H3196, Haman H2001 was falling H5307 on the couch H4296 where H834 H5921 Esther H635 was. Then the king H4428 said H559, “Will he even H1571 assault H3533 the queen H4436 with me in the house H1004?” As the word H1697 went H3318 out H3318 of the king’s H4428 mouth H6310, they covered H2645 Haman’s H2001 face H6440. 9 Then Harbonah H2726, one H259 of the eunuchs H5631 who stood before H6440 the king H4428, said H559, “Indeed H1571, behold H2009, the wooden H6086 gallows standing H5975 at Haman’s H2001 house H1004 [fn]fifty H2572 cubits H520 high H1364, which H834 Haman H2001 made H6213 for Mordecai H4782 who H834 spoke H1696 good H2896 in H5921 behalf H5921 of H5921 the king H4428!” And the king H4428 said H559, “Hang H8518 him on it.” 10 So they hanged H8518 Haman H2001 on the wooden H6086 gallows which H834 he had prepared H3559 for Mordecai H4782, and the king’s H4428 anger H2534 subsided H7918.
