And a bitter destruction;
And I will send the teeth of beasts against them,
With the venom of crawling things of the dust.

Who will show sympathy for you and mourn with you?
The desolation and destruction [on the land and city], famine and sword [on the inhabitants];

Misfortune and evil shall not come on us,
Nor will we see war or famine.
But I said, “Alas, Lord GOD! Behold, the [false] prophets are telling them, ‘You will not see the sword nor will you have famine, but I [the LORD] will give you lasting peace in this place.’”

Then I gaze on those slaughtered with the sword!
And if I enter the city,
