Zin = "flat"
name given to a portion of the desert tract between the Dead Sea and Arabah on the east in which Kadesh-barnea was located
Strong's Number H6790 matches the Hebrew צִן (ṣin),
which occurs 10 times in 9 verses
in the WLC Hebrew.
The entire Israelite community entered the Wilderness of Zin in the first month, and they[fn] settled in Kadesh. Miriam died and was buried there.
“When the community quarreled in the Wilderness of Zin, both of you rebelled against my command to demonstrate my holiness in their sight at the waters.” Those were the Waters of Meribah-kadesh[fn] in the Wilderness of Zin.
They traveled from Ezion-geber and camped in the Wilderness of Zin (that is, Kadesh).
“Your southern side will be from the Wilderness of Zin along the boundary of Edom. Your southern border on the east will begin at the east end of the Dead Sea.
“Your border will turn south of the Scorpions’ Ascent,[fn] proceed to Zin, and end south of Kadesh-barnea. It will go to Hazar-addar and proceed to Azmon.
“For both of you broke faith with me among the Israelites at the Waters of Meribath-kadesh in the Wilderness of Zin by failing to treat me as holy in their presence.
Now the allotment for the tribe of the descendants of Judah by their clans was in the southernmost region, south to the Wilderness of Zin and over to the border of Edom.
