So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said to him, “Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, so that they may serve Me.
“This shall be a permanent statute for you: in the seventh month (nearly October) on the tenth day of the month you shall [fn]humble yourselves [by fasting] and not do any work, whether the native-born or the stranger who lives temporarily among you;
‘Then on the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy [summoned] assembly [for the Day of Atonement]; and you shall [fn]humble yourselves; you shall not do any work.
“Every vow and every binding oath to humble herself, her husband may confirm it or her husband may annul it.
“You have also given me the shield of Your salvation,
And Your help and gentleness make me great.
