Medes = "middle land"
an inhabitant of Media
the territory inhabited by the Medes
located northwest of Persia proper, south and southwest of the Caspian Sea, east of Armenia and Assyria, and west and northwest of the great salt desert of Iram
Strong's Number H4076 matches the Hebrew מָדַי (māḏay),
which occurs 5 times in 5 verses
in the WLC Hebrew.
But it was in the fortress of Ecbatana in the province of Media that a scroll was found with this record written on it:
“Therefore, Your Majesty, establish the edict and sign the document so that, as a law of the Medes and Persians, it is irrevocable and cannot be changed.”
So they approached the king and asked about his edict: “Didn’t you sign an edict that for thirty days any person who petitions any god or man except you, the king, will be thrown into the lions’ den? ”
The king answered, “As a law of the Medes and Persians, the order stands[fn] and is irrevocable.”
