“Don’t fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Though Herod wanted to kill John, he feared the crowd since they regarded John as a prophet.
From then on Jesus began to point out to his disciples that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, be killed, and be raised the third day.
“They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised up.” And they were deeply distressed.
“But when the tenant farmers saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance.’
“This is why I am sending you prophets, sages, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town.
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her. How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks[fn] under her wings, but you were not willing!

This is why the Jews began trying all the more to kill him: Not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal to God.
After this, Jesus traveled in Galilee, since he did not want to travel in Judea because the Jews were trying to kill him.
“Didn’t Moses give you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law. Why are you trying to kill me? ”
Some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, “Isn’t this the man they are trying to kill?
So the Jews said again, “He won’t kill himself, will he, since he says, ‘Where I’m going, you cannot come’? ”

As they were trying to kill him, word went up to the commander of the regiment that all Jerusalem was in chaos.
When it was morning, the Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves under a curse not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul.
