When Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water. The heavens suddenly opened for him,[fn] and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming down on him.
When he saw the crowds, he felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd.
As soon as he came up out of the water, he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.
Then it came out, shrieking and throwing him into terrible convulsions. The boy became like a corpse, so that many said, “He’s dead.”
and the Holy Spirit descended on him in a physical appearance like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well-pleased.”

And John testified, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and he rested on him.
Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, worn out from his journey, sat down at the well. It was about noon.[fn]
Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.”
There was plenty of grass in that place; so they sat down. The men numbered about five thousand.
It was the preparation day for the Passover, and it was about noon.[fn] Then he told the Jews, “Here is your king! ”
Nicodemus (who had previously come to him at night) also came, bringing a mixture of about seventy-five pounds[fn] of myrrh and aloes.
So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand people were added to them.
But many of those who heard the message believed, and the number of the men[fn] came to about five thousand.
“Some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and a group of about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed, and all his followers were dispersed and came to nothing.
And all who were sitting in the Sanhedrin looked intently at him and saw that his face was like the face of an angel.
At once something like scales fell from his eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he got up and was baptized.
About three in the afternoon[fn] he distinctly saw in a vision an angel of God who came in and said to him, “Cornelius.”
you will roll them up like a cloak,[fn]
and they will be changed like clothing.
But you are the same,
and your years will never end.
Therefore, from one man — in fact, from one as good as dead — came offspring as numerous as the stars of the sky and as innumerable as the grains of sand along the seashore.
