“Why do you look at the splinter in your brother’s eye but don’t notice the beam of wood in your own eye?

“On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, drive out demons in your name, and do many miracles in your name? ’

“Take what’s yours and go. I want to give this last man the same as I gave you.

While he was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples approached him privately and said, “Tell us, when will these things happen? And what is the sign of your coming and of the end of the age? ”

“So I was afraid and went off and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.’

Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees[fn] were fasting. People came and asked him, “Why do John’s disciples and the Pharisees’ disciples fast, but your disciples do not fast? ”

Jesus did not let him but told him, “Go home to your own people, and report to them how much the Lord has done for you and how he has had mercy on you.”

Then they said to him, “John’s disciples fast often and say prayers, and those of the Pharisees do the same, but yours eat and drink.”

“Give to everyone who asks you, and from someone who takes your things, don’t ask for them back.

“ ‘Son,’[fn] he said to him, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours.

“Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me ​— ​nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”

And they told the woman, “We no longer believe because of what you said, since we have heard for ourselves and know that this really is the Savior of the world.”[fn]

“Everything I have is yours, and everything you have is mine, and I am glorified in them.

“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

“I’m not a Jew, am I? ” Pilate replied. “Your own nation and the chief priests handed you over to me. What have you done? ”

“Wasn’t it yours while you possessed it? And after it was sold, wasn’t it at your disposal? Why is it that you planned this thing in your heart? You have not lied to people but to God.”

When Paul was called in, Tertullus began to accuse him and said, “We enjoy great peace because of you, and reforms are taking place for the benefit of this nation because of your foresight.

“But, so that I will not burden you any further, I request that you would be kind enough to give us a brief hearing.

So the weak person, the brother or sister for whom Christ died, is ruined[fn] by your knowledge.

Otherwise, if you praise with the spirit,[fn] how will the outsider[fn] say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not know what you are saying?

But I didn’t want to do anything without your consent, so that your good deed might not be out of obligation, but of your own free will.
