Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of [fn]Herod the king (Herod the Great), [fn]magi (wise men) from the east came to Jerusalem, asking,

Then some Pharisees and scribes from Jerusalem came to Jesus and said,

[fn]From that time on Jesus began to show His disciples [clearly] that He must go to Jerusalem, and endure many things at the hands of the elders and the chief priests and scribes (Sanhedrin, Jewish High Court), and be killed, and be raised [from death to life] on the third day.

As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, He took the twelve [disciples] aside, and along the way He said to them,

When they approached Jerusalem and had reached Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples [ahead],

When He entered Jerusalem, all the city was trembling [with excitement], saying, “Who is this?”

Now the Pharisees and some of the scribes came from Jerusalem and gathered around Him,

Now they were on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking on ahead of them; and they were perplexed [at what Jesus had said], and those who were following were alarmed and afraid. And again He took the twelve [disciples] aside and began telling them what was going to happen to Him,

When they were nearing Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany near the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of His disciples,

Jesus entered Jerusalem and went to the temple [enclosure]; and after looking around at everything, He left for Bethany with the twelve [disciples], because it was already late [in the day].

Then they came to Jerusalem. And He entered the temple [grounds] and began driving out [with force] the people who were [fn]selling and buying [animals for sacrifice] in the temple area, and overturned the tables of the moneychangers [who made a profit exchanging foreign money for temple coinage] and the seats of those who were selling doves;

They came again to Jerusalem. And as Jesus was walking in the [courts and porches of the] temple, the [fn]chief priests, the scribes, and the elders came to Him,

And when the time for their purification came [that is, the mother’s purification and the baby’s dedication] according to the Law of Moses, they brought Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord [set apart as the Firstborn]

Jesus journeyed on through cities and villages, teaching and making His way toward Jerusalem.

After saying these things, Jesus went on ahead [of them], going up to Jerusalem.

This is the testimony of John [the Baptist] when the Jews sent priests and Levites to him from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”

Now the Passover of the Jews was approaching, so Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover feast, many believed in His name [identifying themselves with Him] after seeing His signs (attesting miracles) which He was doing.

Later on there was a Jewish feast (festival), and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

At that time the [fn]Feast of Dedication took place at Jerusalem.

Now the Passover of the Jews was approaching, and many from the country went up to Jerusalem before Passover to purify themselves [ceremonially, so that they would be able to participate in the feast].

The next day, when the large crowd who had come to the Passover feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

Saul wholeheartedly approved of Stephen’s death.

And on that day a great and relentless persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem; and the believers were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the apostles.

When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that [the people of] Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them.

So, when Peter and John had given their testimony and preached the word of the Lord, they started back to Jerusalem, preaching the good news [about salvation] in many Samaritan villages [along the way].

Now at this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.

Now Paul and his companions sailed from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia; but [fn]John [Mark] left them and went back to Jerusalem.

Now after these events, Paul determined in the Spirit that he would travel through [fn]Macedonia and Achaia (most of the Greek mainland), and go to Jerusalem, saying, “After I have been there, I must also see Rome [and preach the good news of salvation].”

After this we got ready and started on our way up to Jerusalem.

When we arrived in Jerusalem, the [fn]brothers and sisters welcomed us gladly.
