TDNT Reference: 2:487,224
Strong's Number G1658 matches the Greek ἐλεύθερος (eleutheros),
which occurs 23 times in 23 verses
in the MGNT Greek.
When you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness [you had no desire to conform to God’s will].
A wife is bound [to her husband by law] as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to marry whomever she wishes, only [provided that he too is] in the Lord.
Am I not free [unrestrained and exempt from any obligation]? Am I not an apostle? Have I not [fn]seen Jesus our [risen] Lord [in person]? Are you not [the result and proof of] my work in the Lord?
For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to everyone, so that I may win more [for Christ].
“CAST OUT THE BONDWOMAN [Hagar] AND HER SON [Ishmael],
FOR NEVER SHALL THE SON OF THE BONDWOMAN BE HEIR and SHARE THE INHERITANCE WITH THE SON OF THE FREE WOMAN.”
So then, believers, we [who are born again—reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His purpose] are not children of a slave woman [the natural], but of the free woman [the supernatural].
