وَجَاءَ جَمِيعُ الشَّعْبِ لِيُطْعِمُوا دَاوُدَ خُبْزًا، وَكَانَ بَعْدُ نَهَارٌ. فَحَلَفَ دَاوُدُ قَائِلاً: «هكَذَا يَفْعَلُ لِيَ اللهُ وَهكَذَا يَزِيدُ، إِنْ كُنْتُ أَذُوقُ خُبْزًا أَوْ شَيْئًا آخَرَ قَبْلَ غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ».
