Even if only a tenth of the people remain in the land, it will again be destroyed, like one of the large sacred trees or an Asherah pole, when a sacred pillar on a high place is thrown down. That sacred pillar symbolizes the special chosen family."

וְעֹוד בָּהּ עֲשִׂרִיָּה וְשָׁבָה וְהָיְתָה לְבָעֵר כָּאֵלָה וְכָאַלֹּון אֲשֶׁר בְּשַׁלֶּכֶת מַצֶּבֶת בָּם זֶרַע קֹדֶשׁ מַצַּבְתָּהּ׃ פ

καὶ ἔτι ἐπ᾽ αὐτῆς ἔστιν τὸ ἐπιδέκατον καὶ πάλιν ἔσται εἰς προνομὴν ὡς τερέβινθος καὶ ὡς βάλανος ὅταν ἐκπέσῃ ἀπὸ τῆς θήκης αὐτῆς

وَإِنْ بَقِيَ فِيهَا عُشْرٌ بَعْدُ، فَيَعُودُ وَيَصِيرُ لِلْخَرَابِ، وَلكِنْ كَالْبُطْمَةِ وَالْبَلُّوطَةِ، الَّتِي وَإِنْ قُطِعَتْ فَلَهَا سَاقٌ، يَكُونُ سَاقُهُ زَرْعًا مُقَدَّسًا».

And yet there [fn]shall be a tenth upon it, and again it shall be for a spoil, as a turpentine tree, and as an acorn when it falls out of its husk.

Pues aun quedará en ella una décima parte, y volverá, bien que habrá sido asolada: como el olmo y como el alcornoque, de los cuales en la tala queda el tronco, así será el tronco de ella la simiente santa.

Y si quedare aún en ella la décima parte, ésta volverá a ser destruida; pero como el roble y la encina, que al ser cortados aún queda el tronco, así será el tronco, la simiente santa.
