and the arrogant are never at rest.
They open their mouths as wide as the grave,[fn]
and like death, they are never satisfied.
In their greed they have gathered up many nations
and swallowed many peoples.

indeed, wine betrays him; he is arrogant and never at rest. Because he is as greedy as the grave and like death is never satisfied, he gathers to himself all the nations and takes captive all the peoples.

وَكَمَا أَنَّ الْخَمْرَ غَادِرَةٌ، كَذَلِكَ تَأْخُذُ الْمُغْتَرَّ نَشْوَةُ الانْتِصَارِ فَلا يَسْتَكِينُ، فَإِنَّ جَشَعَهُ فِي سِعَةِ الْهَاوِيَةِ، وهُوَ كَالْمَوْتِ لَا يَشْبَعُ. لِهَذَا يَجْمَعُ لِنَفْسِهِ كُلَّ الأُمَمِ وَيَسْبِي جَمِيعَ الشُّعُوبِ.

وَحَقًّا إِنَّ الْخَمْرَ غَادِرَةٌ. الرَّجُلَ مُتَكَبِّرٌ وَلاَ يَهْدَأُ. الَّذِي قَدْ وَسَّعَ نَفْسَهُ كَالْهَاوِيَةِ، وَهُوَ كَالْمَوْتِ فَلاَ يَشْبَعُ، بَلْ يَجْمَعُ إِلَى نَفْسِهِ كُلَّ الأُمَمِ، وَيَضُمُّ إِلَى نَفْسِهِ جَمِيعَ الشُّعُوبِ.
