Numbers 13 :: Hebrew Names Version (HNV)

Num 13:1The LORD spoke to Moshe, saying,
Num 13:2Send you men, that they may spy out the land of Kana`an, which I give to the children of Yisra'el: of every tribe of their fathers shall you send a man, everyone a prince among them.
Num 13:3Moshe sent them from the wilderness of Paran according to the mitzvah of the LORD: all of them men who were heads of the children of Yisra'el.
Num 13:4These were their names: Of the tribe of Re'uven, Shammua the son of Zakkur.
Num 13:5Of the tribe of Shim`on, Shafat the son of Hori.
Num 13:6Of the tribe of Yehudah, Kalev the son of Yefunneh.
Num 13:7Of the tribe of Yissakhar, Yig'al the son of Yosef.
Num 13:8Of the tribe of Efrayim, Hoshea the son of Nun.
Num 13:9Of the tribe of Binyamin, Palti the son of Rafu.
Num 13:10Of the tribe of Zevulun, Gaddi'el the son of Sodi.
Num 13:11Of the tribe of Yosef, namely, of the tribe of Menashsheh, Gaddi the son of Susi.
Num 13:12Of the tribe of Dan, `Ammi'el the son of Gemalli.
Num 13:13Of the tribe of Asher, Setur the son of Mikha'el.
Num 13:14Of the tribe of Naftali, Nachbi the son of Vofsi.
Num 13:15Of the tribe of Gad, Ge'u'el the son of Makhi.
Num 13:16These are the names of the men who Moshe sent to spy out the land. Moshe called Hoshea the son of Nun Yehoshua.
Num 13:17Moshe sent them to spy out the land of Kana`an, and said to them, Go up this way by the South, and go up into the hill-country:
Num 13:18and see the land, what it is; and the people who dwell therein, whether they are strong or weak, whether they are few or many;
Num 13:19and what the land is that they dwell in, whether it is good or bad; and what cities they are that they dwell in, whether in camps, or in strongholds;
Num 13:20and what the land is, whether it is fat or lean, whether there is wood therein, or not. Be of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the first-ripe grapes.
Num 13:21So they went up, and spied out the land from the wilderness of Tzin to Rechov, to the entrance of Hamat.
Num 13:22They went up by the South, and came to Hevron; and Achiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of `Anak, were there. (Now Hevron was built seven years before Tzo`an in Mitzrayim.)
Num 13:23They came to the valley of Eshkol, and cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bore it on a staff between two; they brought also of the pomegranates, and of the figs.
Num 13:24That place was called the valley of Eshkol, because of the cluster which the children of Yisra'el cut down from there.

The Spies' Reports

Num 13:25They returned from spying out the land at the end of forty days.
Num 13:26They went and came to Moshe, and to Aharon, and to all the congregation of the children of Yisra'el, to the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word to them, and to all the congregation, and shown them the fruit of the land.
Num 13:27They told him, and said, We came to the land where you sent us; and surely it flows with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.
Num 13:28However the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of `Anak there.
Num 13:29`Amalek dwells in the land of the South: and the Hittite, and the Yevusi, and the Amori, dwell in the hill-country; and the Kana`ani dwells by the sea, and along by the side of the Yarden.
Num 13:30Kalev stilled the people before Moshe, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
Num 13:31But the men who went up with him said, We aren't able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
Num 13:32They brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out to the children of Yisra'el, saying, The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that eats up the inhabitants of it; and all the people who we saw in it are men of great stature.
Num 13:33There we saw the Nefilim, the sons of `Anak, who come of the Nefilim: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
