Contrast of the Upright and the Wicked

1 The wise ^H2450 woman ^H802 builds ^H1129 her house ^H1004,

But the foolish ^H200 tears ^H2040 it down ^H2040 with her own hands ^H3027.

2 One who walks ^H1980 in his uprightness ^H3476 fears ^H3372 the LORD ^H3068,

But one who is devious ^H3868 in his ways ^H1870 despises ^H959 Him.

3 In the mouth ^H6310 of the foolish ^H191 is a rod ^H2415 for his back ^H1460,

But the lips ^H8193 of the wise ^H2450 will protect ^H8104 them.

4 Where there are no ^H369 oxen ^H504, the manger ^H18 is clean ^H1249;

But much ^H7230 revenue ^H8393 comes by the strength ^H3581 of the ox ^H7794.

5 A trustworthy ^H529 witness ^H5707 will not lie ^H3576,

But a false ^H8267 witness ^H5707 declares ^H6315 lies ^H3577.

6 A scoffer ^H3887 seeks ^H1245 wisdom ^H2451 and finds none ^H369,

But knowledge ^H1847 is ^H7043 easy ^H7043 for one who has ^H995 understanding ^H995.

7 Leave ^H1980 the presence ^H5048 of a fool ^H3684,

Or you will not [fn]discern ^H3045 [fn]words ^H8193 of knowledge ^H1847.

8 The wisdom ^H2451 of the sensible ^H6175 is to understand ^H995 his way ^H1870,

But the foolishness ^H200 of fools ^H3684 is deceit ^H4820.

9 Fools ^H191 mock ^H3887 at [fn]sin ^H817,

But among ^H996 the upright ^H3477 there is [fn]goodwill ^H7522.

10 The heart ^H3820 knows ^H3045 its own ^H5315 bitterness ^H4787,

And a stranger ^H2114 does not share ^H6148 its joy ^H8057.

11 The house ^H1004 of the wicked ^H7563 will be destroyed ^H8045,

But the tent ^H168 of the upright ^H3477 will flourish ^H6524.

But its end ^H319 is the way ^H1870 of death ^H4194.

And the end ^H319 of joy ^H8057 may be grief ^H8424.

14 One with a wayward ^H5472 heart ^H3820 will have ^H7646 his fill ^H7646 of his own ways ^H1870,

But a good ^H2896 person ^H376 will be satisfied [fn]with his.

But the sensible ^H6175 person ^H6175 considers ^H995 his steps ^H838.

But kindness ^H2617 and truth ^H571 will be to those who devise ^H2790 good ^H2896.

But [fn]mere ^H8193 talk ^H1697 leads only ^H389 to poverty ^H4270.

24 The crown ^H5850 of the wise ^H2450 is their riches ^H6239,

But the foolishness ^H200 of fools ^H3684 is simply foolishness ^H200.

But one who declares ^H6315 lies ^H3577 is [fn]deceitful ^H4820.

27 [fn]The fear ^H3374 of the LORD ^H3068 is a fountain ^H4726 of life ^H2416,

By which one may avoid ^H5493 the snares ^H4170 of death ^H4194.

28 In a multitude ^H7230 of people ^H5971 is a king’s ^H4428 glory ^H1927,

But in the scarcity ^H657 of people ^H3816 is a prince’s ^H7333 ruin ^H4288.

29 One who is slow ^H750 to anger ^H639 has great ^H7227 understanding ^H8394;

But one who is [fn]quick-tempered ^H7116 H7307 exalts ^H7311 foolishness ^H200.

30 A tranquil ^H4832 heart ^H3820 is life ^H2416 to the body ^H1320,

But jealousy ^H7068 is rottenness ^H7538 to the bones ^H6106.

31 One who oppresses ^H6231 the poor ^H1800 taunts ^H2778 his Maker ^H6213,

But one who is gracious ^H2603 to the needy ^H34 honors ^H3513 Him.

32 The wicked ^H7563 is thrust ^H1760 down ^H1760 by his own wrongdoing ^H7451,

But the righteous ^H6662 has ^H2620 a ^H2620 refuge ^H2620 when he dies ^H4194.

33 Wisdom ^H2451 rests ^H5117 in the heart ^H3820 of one who has ^H995 understanding ^H995,

But among ^H7130 fools ^H3684 it is made ^H3045 known ^H3045.

34 Righteousness ^H6666 exalts ^H7311 a nation ^H1471,

But sin ^H2403 is a disgrace ^H2617 to any people ^H3816.

35 The king’s ^H4428 favor ^H7522 is toward a servant ^H5650 who acts ^H7919 wisely ^H7919,

But his anger ^H5678 is toward him who acts ^H954 shamefully ^H954.
