Contrast of the Upright and the Wicked

1 A wise ^H2450 son ^H1121 accepts his father’s ^H1 discipline ^H4148,

But a scoffer ^H3887 does not listen ^H8085 to rebuke ^H1606.

2 From the fruit ^H6529 of a person’s ^H376 mouth ^H6310 he [fn]enjoys ^H398 good ^H2896,

But the [fn]desire ^H5315 of the treacherous ^H898 is violence ^H2555.

3 One who guards ^H5341 his mouth ^H6310 protects ^H8104 his life ^H5315;

One who opens ^H6589 wide ^H6589 his lips ^H8193 [fn]comes to ruin ^H4288.

4 The soul ^H5315 of the [fn]lazy ^H6102 one ^H6102 craves ^H183 and gets nothing ^H369,

But the soul ^H5315 of the diligent ^H2742 is made ^H1878 [fn]prosperous ^H1878.

5 A righteous ^H6662 person ^H6662 hates ^H8130 a false ^H8267 statement ^H1697,

But a wicked ^H7563 person ^H7563 [fn]acts ^H887 disgustingly ^H887 and shamefully ^H2659.

6 Righteousness ^H6666 guards ^H5341 the [fn]one whose way ^H1870 is blameless ^H8537,

But wickedness ^H7564 brings ^H5557 the [fn]sinner ^H2403 to ^H5557 ruin ^H5557.

7 There ^H3426 is ^H3426 one who pretends ^H6238 to ^H6238 be ^H6238 rich ^H6238 but has ^H369 nothing ^H369 H3605;

Another pretends ^H7326 to ^H7326 be ^H7326 poor ^H7326, but has great ^H7227 wealth ^H1952.

8 The ransom ^H3724 of a person’s ^H376 life ^H5315 is his wealth ^H6239,

But the poor ^H7326 hears ^H8085 no ^H3808 rebuke ^H1606.
