Contrast of the Upright and the Wicked

1 A false ^H4820 balance ^H3976 is an abomination ^H8441 to the LORD ^H3068,

But a just ^H8003 weight ^H68 is His delight ^H7522.

2 When pride ^H2087 comes ^H935, then comes ^H935 dishonor ^H7036;

But with the humble ^H6800 there is wisdom ^H2451.

3 The integrity ^H8538 of the upright ^H3477 will guide ^H5148 them,

But the perversity ^H5558 of the treacherous ^H898 will destroy ^H7703 them.

4 Riches ^H1952 do not benefit ^H3276 on the day ^H3117 of wrath ^H5678,

But righteousness ^H6666 rescues ^H5337 from death ^H4194.

5 The righteousness ^H6666 of the blameless ^H8549 will smooth ^H3474 his way ^H1870,

But the wicked ^H7563 will fall ^H5307 by his own wickedness ^H7564.

6 The righteousness ^H6666 of the upright ^H3477 will rescue ^H5337 them,

But the treacherous ^H898 will be caught ^H3920 by their own greed ^H1942.

7 When a wicked ^H7563 person ^H120 dies ^H4194, his expectation ^H8615 will perish ^H6,

And the hope ^H8431 of strong ^H202 people ^H202 perishes ^H6.

8 The righteous ^H6662 is rescued ^H2502 from trouble ^H6869,

But the wicked ^H7563 [fn]takes ^H935 his place ^H8478.

9 With his mouth ^H6310 the godless ^H2611 person ^H2611 destroys ^H7843 his neighbor ^H7453,

But through knowledge ^H1847 the righteous ^H6662 will be rescued ^H2502.

10 When things ^H2898 go well ^H2898 for the righteous ^H6662, the city ^H7151 rejoices ^H5970,

And when the wicked ^H7563 perish ^H6, there is joyful ^H7440 shouting ^H7440.

But the cruel ^H394 person ^H394 [fn]does ^H5916 himself ^H7607 harm ^H5916.

18 A wicked ^H7563 person ^H7563 earns ^H6213 deceptive ^H8267 wages ^H7938,

But one who sows ^H2232 righteousness ^H6666 gets a true ^H571 reward ^H7938.

19 One who is steadfast ^H3651 in righteousness ^H6666 attains life ^H2416,

But one who pursues ^H7291 evil ^H7451 attains his own death ^H4194.

20 The perverse ^H6141 in heart ^H3820 are an abomination ^H8441 to the LORD ^H3068,

21 [fn]Be assured ^H3027, the evil ^H7451 person ^H7451 will not go ^H5352 unpunished ^H5352,

But the [fn]descendants ^H2233 of the righteous ^H6662 will be rescued ^H4422.

22 As a ring ^H5141 of gold ^H2091 in a pig’s ^H2386 snout ^H639

So is a beautiful ^H3303 woman ^H802 who lacks ^H5493 discretion ^H2940.

23 The desire ^H8378 of the righteous ^H6662 is only ^H389 good ^H2896,

But the expectation ^H8615 of the wicked ^H7563 is wrath ^H5678.

24 There ^H3426 is ^H3426 one who scatters ^H6340, and yet increases ^H3254 all ^H5750 the ^H5750 more ^H5750,

And there is one who withholds ^H2820 what ^H3476 is ^H3476 justly ^H3476 due ^H3476, and yet it results only ^H389 in poverty ^H4270.

26 One who withholds ^H4513 grain ^H1250, the people ^H3816 will curse ^H6895 him,

But blessing ^H1293 will be on the head ^H7218 of him who sells ^H7666 it.

27 One who diligently ^H7836 seeks ^H7836 good ^H2896 seeks ^H1245 favor ^H7522,

But one who seeks ^H1875 evil ^H7451, evil will come ^H935 to him.

28 One who trusts ^H982 in his riches ^H6239 will fall ^H5307,

But the righteous ^H6662 will flourish ^H6524 like the green leaf ^H5929.

29 One who troubles ^H5916 his own house ^H1004 will inherit ^H5157 wind ^H7307,

And the foolish ^H191 will be servant ^H5650 to the wise-hearted ^H2450.

30 The fruit ^H6529 of the righteous ^H6662 is a tree ^H6086 of life ^H2416,

And one who is wise ^H2450 [fn]gains ^H3947 souls ^H5315.

31 If ^H2005 the righteous ^H6662 will be repaid ^H7999 on the earth ^H776,

How ^H637 much ^H637 H3588 more ^H637 the wicked ^H7563 and the sinner ^H2398!
