Deception by the Gibeonites

16 However, it came ^H1961 about ^H1961 at the end ^H7097 of three ^H7969 days ^H3117 after ^H310 they had made ^H3772 a covenant ^H1285 with them, that they heard ^H8085 that they were neighbors ^H7138 and that they were living ^H3427 [fn]within ^H7130 their land. 17 Then the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 set ^H5265 out ^H5265 and came ^H935 to their cities ^H5892 on the third ^H7992 day ^H3117. 22 Then Joshua ^H3091 called ^H7121 for them and spoke ^H1696 to them, saying ^H559, “Why ^H4100 have you deceived ^H7411 us, saying ^H559, ‘We are very ^H3966 far ^H7350 from you,’ when you are living ^H3427 [fn]within ^H7130 our land? 23 Now ^H6258 therefore, you are cursed ^H779, and [fn]you will never ^H3808 cease ^H3772 to be slaves ^H5650, both gatherers ^H2404 of firewood ^H6086 and [fn]labor to draw ^H7579 water ^H4325 for the house ^H1004 of my God ^H430.” 24 So they answered ^H6030 Joshua ^H3091 and said ^H559, “Since ^H3588 your servants ^H5650 were fully ^H5046 informed ^H5046 that the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430 had commanded ^H6680 His servant ^H5650 Moses ^H4872 to give ^H5414 you all ^H3605 the land ^H776, and to destroy ^H8045 all ^H3605 the inhabitants ^H3427 of the land ^H776 before ^H4480 H6440 you, we feared ^H3372 greatly ^H3966 for our lives ^H5315 because ^H4480 H6440 of you, and did ^H6213 this ^H2088 thing ^H1697. 25 And now ^H6258 behold ^H2009, we are in your hands ^H3027; do ^H6213 to us as it seems good ^H2896 and right ^H3477 in your sight ^H5869 to do ^H6213.” 26 This ^H3651 he did ^H6213 to them, and saved ^H5337 them from the hands ^H3027 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, and they did not kill ^H2026 them. 27 But on that day ^H3117 Joshua ^H3091 made ^H5414 them gatherers ^H2404 of firewood ^H6086 and [fn]labor to draw ^H7579 water ^H4325 for the congregation ^H5712 and for the altar ^H4196 of the LORD ^H3068, to this ^H2088 day ^H3117, in the place ^H4725 which ^H834 He would choose ^H977.
