1 Then Joshua ^H3091 gathered ^H622 all ^H3605 the tribes ^H7626 of Israel ^H3478 at Shechem ^H7927, and called ^H7121 for the elders ^H2205 of Israel ^H3478, their heads ^H7218, their judges ^H8199, and their officers ^H7860; and they presented ^H3320 themselves before ^H6440 God ^H430.

“We Will Serve the LORD”

14 “Now ^H6258, therefore, [fn]fear ^H3372 the LORD ^H3068 and serve ^H5647 Him in sincerity ^H8549 and [fn]truth ^H571; and do ^H5493 away ^H5493 with the gods ^H430 which ^H834 your fathers ^H1 served ^H5647 beyond ^H5676 the Euphrates River ^H5104 and in Egypt ^H4714, and serve ^H5647 the LORD ^H3068.

15 But if ^H518 it is disagreeable ^H7451 in your sight ^H5869 to serve ^H5647 the LORD ^H3068, choose ^H977 for yourselves today ^H3117 whom ^H4310 you will serve ^H5647: whether ^H518 the gods ^H430 which ^H834 your fathers ^H1 served ^H5647, which ^H834 were beyond ^H5676 the Euphrates River ^H5104, or the gods ^H430 of the Amorites ^H567 in whose ^H834 land ^H776 you are living ^H3427; but as for me and my house ^H1004, we will serve ^H5647 the LORD ^H3068.”

16 The people ^H5971 answered ^H6030 and said ^H559, “Far ^H2486 be it from us that we would abandon ^H5800 the LORD ^H3068 to serve ^H5647 other ^H312 gods ^H430; 17 for the LORD ^H3068 our God ^H430 is He who brought ^H5927 us and our fathers ^H1 up ^H5927 out of the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714, from the house ^H1004 of slaves ^H5650, and did ^H6213 these ^H428 great ^H1419 signs ^H226 in our sight ^H5869 and watched ^H8104 over ^H8104 us through all ^H3605 the way ^H1870 in which ^H834 we went ^H1980 and among all ^H3605 the peoples ^H5971 through whose ^H834 midst ^H7130 we passed ^H5674. 18 The LORD ^H3068 drove ^H1644 out ^H1644 from before ^H6440 us all ^H3605 the peoples ^H5971, even the Amorites ^H567 who lived ^H3427 in the land ^H776. We also ^H1571 will serve ^H5647 the LORD ^H3068, for He is our God ^H430.”

19 Then Joshua ^H3091 said ^H559 to the people ^H5971, “You will not be ^H3201 able ^H3201 to serve ^H5647 the LORD ^H3068, for He is a holy ^H6918 God ^H430. He is a jealous ^H7072 God ^H410; He will not forgive ^H5375 your wrongdoing ^H6588 or your sins ^H2403. 20 If ^H3588 you abandon ^H5800 the LORD ^H3068 and serve ^H5647 foreign ^H5236 gods ^H430, then He will turn ^H7725 and do ^H7489 you harm ^H7489 and destroy ^H3615 you after ^H310 He has done ^H3190 good ^H3190 to you.” 21 And the people ^H5971 said ^H559 to Joshua ^H3091, “No ^H3808, but we will serve ^H5647 the LORD ^H3068.” 22 So Joshua ^H3091 said ^H559 to the people ^H5971, “You are witnesses ^H5707 against yourselves that you have chosen ^H977 for yourselves the LORD ^H3068, to serve ^H5647 Him.” And they said ^H559, “We are witnesses ^H5707.” 23 “Now ^H6258 then, do ^H5493 away ^H5493 with the foreign ^H5236 gods ^H430 which ^H834 are in your midst ^H7130, and incline ^H5186 your hearts ^H3824 to the LORD ^H3068, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478.” 24 And the people ^H5971 said ^H559 to Joshua ^H3091, “We will serve ^H5647 the LORD ^H3068 our God ^H430 and [fn]obey ^H8085 His voice ^H6963.” 25 So Joshua ^H3091 made ^H3772 a covenant ^H1285 with the people ^H5971 that day ^H3117, and made ^H7760 for them a statute ^H2706 and an ordinance ^H4941 in Shechem ^H7927. 26 And Joshua ^H3091 wrote ^H3789 these ^H428 words ^H1697 in the Book ^H5612 of the Law ^H8451 of God ^H430; and he took ^H3947 a large ^H1419 stone ^H68 and set ^H6965 it up ^H6965 there ^H8033 under ^H8478 the oak ^H427 that was by the sanctuary ^H4720 of the LORD ^H3068. 27 Then Joshua ^H3091 said ^H559 to all ^H3605 the people ^H5971, “Behold ^H2009, this ^H2088 stone ^H68 shall be a witness ^H5713 against us, because ^H3588 it has heard ^H8085 all ^H3605 the words ^H561 of the LORD ^H3068 which ^H834 He spoke ^H1696 [fn]to us; so it shall be a witness ^H5713 against you, so ^H6435 that ^H6435 you do not ^H6435 deny ^H3584 your God ^H430.” 28 Then Joshua ^H3091 dismissed ^H7971 the people ^H5971, each ^H376 to his inheritance ^H5159.

Joshua’s Death and Burial

29 Now it came ^H1961 about ^H1961 after ^H310 these ^H428 things ^H1697 that Joshua ^H3091 the son ^H1121 of Nun ^H5126, the servant ^H5650 of the LORD ^H3068, died ^H4191, being 110 ^H3967 H6235 years ^H8141 old ^H1121.

30 And they buried ^H6912 him in the territory ^H1366 of his inheritance ^H5159, in Timnath-serah ^H8556, which ^H834 is in the hill ^H2022 country ^H2022 of Ephraim ^H669, on the north ^H6828 of Mount ^H2022 Gaash ^H1608.

31 Israel ^H3478 served ^H5647 the LORD ^H3068 all ^H3605 the days ^H3117 of Joshua ^H3091 and all ^H3605 the days ^H3117 of the elders ^H2205 who ^H834 [fn]survived ^{H748 H3117 H310} Joshua ^H3091, and had known ^H3045 every ^H3605 deed ^H4639 of the LORD ^H3068 which ^H834 He had done ^H6213 for Israel ^H3478.

32 Now they buried ^H6912 the bones ^H6106 of Joseph ^H3130, which ^H834 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 brought ^H5927 up ^H5927 from Egypt ^H4714, at Shechem ^H7927, in the plot ^H2513 of land ^H7704 which ^H834 Jacob ^H3290 had bought ^H7069 from the sons ^H1121 of Hamor ^H2544 the father ^H1 of Shechem ^H7927 for a hundred ^H3967 [fn]pieces ^H7192 of ^H7192 money ^H7192; and they became ^H1961 the inheritance ^H5159 of Joseph’s ^H3130 sons ^H1121. 33 And Eleazar ^H499 the son ^H1121 of Aaron ^H175 died ^H4191; and they buried ^H6912 him at Gibeah ^H1390, the town of his son ^H1121 Phinehas ^H6372, which ^H834 was given ^H5414 to him in the hill ^H2022 country ^H2022 of Ephraim ^H669.
