Job Says There Is No Arbitrator between God and Mankind

1 Then Job ^H347 responded ^H6030 H559,

2 “In truth ^H551 I know ^H3045 that this is so ^H3651;

But how ^H4100 can a person ^H582 be ^H6663 in ^H6663 the ^H6663 right ^H6663 with ^H5973 God ^H410?

3 “If ^H518 one wished ^H2654 to dispute ^H7378 with Him,

He could not answer ^H6030 Him once ^H259 in a thousand ^H505 times.

4 “Wise ^H2450 in heart ^H3824 and mighty ^H533 in strength ^H3581,

Who ^H4310 has [fn]defied ^H7185 H413 Him [fn]without ^H7999 harm ^H7999?

5 “It is God who removes ^H6275 the mountains ^H2022, and they do not know ^H3045 how,

When ^H834 He overturns ^H2015 them in His anger ^H639.

6 “It is He who shakes ^H7264 the earth ^H776 from its place ^H4725,

And its pillars ^H5982 tremble ^H6426;

7 Who commands ^H559 the sun ^H2775 [fn]not to shine ^H2224,

And puts ^H2856 a ^H2856 seal ^H2856 on the stars ^H3556;

8 Who alone ^H905 stretches ^H5186 out ^H5186 the heavens ^H8064,

10 “It is He who does ^H6213 great ^H1419 things ^H1419, [fn]the unfathomable ^{H2714 H369 H5704},

And wondrous ^H6381 works ^H6381 without ^H5704 H369 number ^H4557.

11 “If ^H2005 He were to pass ^H5674 by me, I would not see ^H7200 Him;

Were He to move ^H2498 past ^H2498 me, I would not perceive ^H995 Him.

12 “If ^H2005 He were to snatch ^H2862 away ^H2862, who ^H4310 could restrain ^H7725 Him?

Who ^H4310 could say ^H559 to Him, ‘What ^H4100 are You doing ^H6213?’

13 “God ^H433 will not turn ^H7725 back ^H7725 His anger ^H639;

Beneath ^H8478 Him the helpers ^H5826 of [fn]Rahab ^H7293 cower ^H7817.

14 “How ^H637 then ^H637 H3588 can I [fn]answer ^H6030 Him,

And choose ^H977 my words ^H1697 [fn]before ^H5973 Him?

15 “For though ^H518 I were ^H6663 right ^H6663, I could not [fn]answer ^H6030;

I would have to implore ^H2603 the mercy ^H2603 of my Judge ^H8199.

16 “If ^H518 I called ^H7121 and He answered ^H6030 me,

I could not believe ^H539 that He was listening ^H238 to my voice ^H6963.

17 “For He bruises ^H7779 me with a storm ^H8183

And multiplies ^H7235 my wounds ^H6482 without ^H2600 cause ^H2600.

18 “He will not allow ^H5414 me to get ^H7725 my breath ^H7307,

But He saturates ^H7646 me with bitterness ^H4472.

19 “If ^H518 it is a matter of power ^H3581, behold ^H2009, He is the strong ^H533 one ^H533!

And if ^H518 it is a matter of justice ^H4941, who ^H4310 can summon ^H3259 [fn]Him?

20 “Though ^H518 I am ^H6663 righteous ^H6663, my mouth ^H6310 will condemn ^H7561 me;

Though I am guiltless ^H8535, He will declare ^H6140 me guilty ^H6140.

21 “I am guiltless ^H8535;

I do not take ^H3045 notice ^H3045 of myself ^H5315;

I reject ^H3988 my life ^H2416.

22 “It is all one ^H259; therefore ^H5921 H3651 I say ^H559,

‘He destroys ^H3615 the guiltless ^H8535 and the wicked ^H7563.’

23 “If ^H518 the whip ^H7752 kills ^H4191 suddenly ^H6597,

He mocks ^H3932 the despair ^H4531 of the innocent ^H5355.

24 “The earth ^H776 is handed ^H5414 H3027 over ^H5414 to the wicked ^H7563;

He covers ^H3680 the faces ^H6440 of its judges ^H8199.

If ^H518 it is not He, then ^H645 who ^H4310 is it?

25 “Now my days ^H3117 are ^H7043 swifter ^H7043 than ^H4480 a runner ^H7323;

They flee ^H1272 away ^H1272, they see ^H7200 no ^H3808 good ^H2896.

26 “They slip ^H2498 by ^H2498 like ^H5973 reed ^H16 boats ^H591,

Like an eagle ^H5404 that swoops ^H2907 on [fn]its prey ^H400.

27 “Though ^H518 I say ^H559, ‘I will forget ^H7911 my complaint ^H7879,

28 I am afraid ^H3025 of all ^H3605 my pains ^H6094,

I know ^H3045 that You will not acquit ^H5352 me.

29 “I am ^H7561 guilty ^H7561,

Why ^H4100 then ^H2088 should I struggle ^H3021 in vain ^H1892?

30 “If ^H518 I washed ^H7364 myself with snow ^H7950,

And cleansed ^H2141 my hands ^H3709 with lye ^H1253,

31 Then ^H227 You would plunge ^H2881 me into the pit ^H7845,

And my own clothes ^H8008 would loathe ^H8581 me.

32 “For He is not a man ^H376, as I am, that I may answer ^H6030 Him—

That we may go ^H935 to [fn]court ^H4941 together ^H3162!

33 “There ^H3426 is ^H3426 no ^H3808 arbitrator ^H3198 between ^H996 us,

Who can place ^H7896 his hand ^H3027 upon us both ^H8147.

34 “Let Him remove ^H5493 His rod ^H7626 from me,

And let not the dread ^H367 of Him terrify ^H1204 me.

35 “Then I would speak ^H1696 and not fear ^H3372 Him;

But I am not like ^H3651 that in myself.
