Job Says He Has Become a Proverb
1 “My spirit H7307 is broken H2254, my days H3117 are extinguished H2193,
The [fn]grave H6913 is ready for me.
2 “Mockers H2049 are certainly H518 H3808 with me,
And my eye H5869 [fn]gazes H3885 on their provocation H4784.
3 “Make H7760 a pledge H6162 for me with Yourself;
Who H4310 is there that will [fn]be H8628 my guarantor H8628 H3027?
4 “For You have [fn]kept H6845 their hearts H3820 away H6845 from understanding H7922;
Therefore H5921 H3651 You will not exalt H7311 them.
5 “He who informs H5046 against friends H7453 for a share H2506 of the spoils,
The eyes H5869 of his children H1121 also will perish H3615.
6 “But He has made H3322 me a proverb H4912 among the people H5971,
And I am H1961 [fn]one at whom people spit H8611.
7 “My eye H5869 has also become H3543 inexpressive H3543 because H4480 of grief H3708,
And all H3605 my body H3338 parts H3338 are like a shadow H6738.
8 “The upright H3477 will be H8074 appalled H8074 at this H2088,
And the innocent H5355 will stir H5782 himself up H5782 against H5921 the godless H2611.
9 “Nevertheless the righteous H6662 will hold H270 to his way H1870,
And the one who has clean H2889 hands H3027 will grow H3254 stronger H555 and stronger H555.
10 “But come H935 again H7725 all H3605 of [fn]you now H4994,
For I do not find H4672 a wise H2450 man H2450 among you.
11 “My days H3117 are H5674 past H5674, my plans H2154 are torn H5423 apart H5423,
The wishes H4180 of my heart H3824.
12 “They make H7760 night H3915 into day H3117, saying,
‘The light H216 is near H7138,’ in the presence H6440 of darkness H2822.
13 “If H518 I hope H6960 for [fn]Sheol H7585 as my home H1004,
I [fn]make H7502 my bed H3326 in the darkness H2822;
14 If I call H7121 to the grave H7845, ‘You are my father H1’;
To the maggot H7415, ‘my mother H517 and my sister H269’;
15 Where H346 then H645 is my hope H8615?
And who H4310 looks H7789 at H7789 my hope H8615?
16 “[fn]Will it go H3381 down H3381 with me to Sheol H7585?
Shall we together H3162 go H5181 down H5181 into the dust H6083?”
