Job Chides His Accusers

1 Then Job ^H347 responded ^H6030 H559,

2 “Truly ^H551 then ^H3588 you are the people ^H5971,

And with you wisdom ^H2451 will die ^H4191!

3 “But I have intelligence ^H3824 as ^H1571 well ^H1571 as you;

I am not inferior ^H5307 to you.

And [fn]who ^H4310 does not know ^H854 such ^H3644 things as these ^H428?

4 “I am ^H1961 a joke ^H7814 to [fn]my friends ^H7453,

The one who called ^H7121 on God ^H433 and He answered ^H6030 him;

The just ^H6662 and blameless ^H8549 man is a joke ^H7814.

5 “[fn]He who is at ^H7600 ease ^H7600 holds ^H6248 disaster ^H6365 in contempt ^H937,

As prepared ^H3559 for those whose feet ^H7272 slip ^H4571.

6 “The tents ^H168 of the destroyers ^H7703 prosper ^H7951,

And those who provoke ^H7264 God ^H410 are secure ^H987,

[fn]Whom ^H834 God ^H433 brings ^H935 into their power ^H3027.

7 “But just ^H4994 ask ^H7592 the animals ^H929, and have them teach ^H3384 you;

And the birds ^H5775 of the sky ^H8064, and have them tell ^H5046 you.

8 “Or ^H176 speak ^H7878 to the earth ^H776, and have it teach ^H3384 you;

And have the fish ^H1709 of the sea ^H3220 tell ^H5608 you.

9 “Who ^H4310 among all ^H3605 these ^H428 does not know ^H3045

That the hand ^H3027 of the LORD ^H3068 has done ^H6213 this ^H2088,

10 In whose ^H834 hand ^H3027 is the life ^H5315 of every ^H3605 living ^H2416 thing ^H2416,

And the breath ^H7307 of all ^H3605 mankind ^H376 H1320?

11 “Does the ear ^H241 not put ^H974 words ^H4405 to ^H974 the ^H974 test ^H974,

As the palate ^H2441 [fn]tastes ^H2938 its food ^H400?

12 “Wisdom ^H2451 is with the aged ^H3453,

And with [fn]long ^H753 life ^H3117 comes understanding ^H8394.

Job Speaks of the Power of God

13 “Wisdom ^H2451 and might ^H1369 are with Him;

Advice ^H6098 and understanding ^H8394 belong to Him.

14 “Behold ^H2005, He tears ^H2040 down ^H2040, and it cannot ^H3808 be rebuilt ^H1129;

He [fn]imprisons ^H5462 a person ^H376, and [fn]there is no ^H3808 release ^H6605.

15 “Behold ^H2005, He restrains ^H6113 the waters ^H4325, and they dry ^H3001 up ^H3001;

And He sends ^H7971 them out ^H7971, and they [fn]inundate ^H2015 the earth ^H776.

16 “Strength ^H5797 and sound ^H8454 wisdom ^H8454 are with Him.

One who goes ^H7683 astray ^H7683 and one who leads ^H7686 astray ^H7686 belong to Him.

17 “He makes advisers ^H3289 walk ^H1980 [fn]barefoot ^H7758

And makes ^H1984 fools ^H1984 of judges ^H8199.

18 “He undoes ^H6605 the binding ^H4147 of kings ^H4428,

And ties ^H631 a loincloth ^H232 around their waist ^H4975.

19 “He makes priests ^H3548 walk ^H1980 [fn]barefoot ^H7758,

And overthrows ^H5557 the secure ^H386 ones ^H386.

20 “He deprives ^H5493 the trusted ^H539 ones of speech ^H8193,

And takes ^H3947 away the discernment ^H2940 of the elders ^H2205.

21 “He pours ^H8210 contempt ^H937 on nobles ^H5081,

And loosens ^H7503 the belt ^H4206 of the strong ^H650.

22 “He reveals ^H1540 mysteries ^H6013 from the darkness ^H2822,

And brings ^H3318 the deep ^H6757 darkness ^H6757 into light ^H216.

23 “He makes ^H7679 the nations ^H1471 great ^H7679, then destroys ^H6 them;

He [fn]enlarges ^H7849 the nations ^H1471, then leads ^H5148 them away.

24 “He deprives ^H5493 the leaders ^H7218 of the earth’s ^H776 people ^H5971 of [fn]intelligence ^H3820

And makes them wander ^H8582 in a pathless ^H3808 H1870 wasteland ^H8414.

25 “They grope ^H4959 in darkness ^H2822 with no ^H3808 light ^H216,

And He makes them stagger ^H8582 like a drunken ^H7910 person ^H7910.
