Zophar Rebukes Job
1 Then Zophar H6691 the Naamathite H5284 responded H6030 H559,
2 “Shall a multitude H7230 of words H1697 go H6030 unanswered H3808 H6030,
And a talkative H8193 man H376 be acquitted H6663?
3 “Shall your boasts H907 silence H2790 people H4962?
And will you scoff H3932, and no H369 one H369 rebuke H3637?
4 “For you have said H559, ‘My teaching H3948 is pure H2134,
And I am H1961 innocent H1249 in your eyes H5869.’
5 “But if H4310 H5414 only H4310 H5414 God H433 would speak H1696,
And open H6605 His lips H8193 against H5973 you,
6 And show H5046 you the secrets H8587 of wisdom H2451!
For sound H8454 wisdom H8454 [fn]has two H3718 sides H3718.
Know H3045 then that God H433 [fn]forgets H5382 part of your guilt H5771.
7 “Can you discover H4672 the depths H2714 of God H433?
Can you discover H4672 the limits H8503 of the Almighty H7706?
8 “They are as high H1363 as [fn]the heavens H8064; what H4100 can you do H6466?
Deeper H6013 than H4480 [fn]Sheol H7585; what H4100 can you know H3045?
9 “Its measurement H4055 is longer H752 than H4480 the earth H776
And broader H7342 than H4480 the sea H3220.
10 “If H518 He passes H2498 by H2498 or apprehends H5462 people,
Or calls H6950 an H6950 assembly H6950, who H4310 can restrain H7725 Him?
11 “For He knows H3045 false H7723 people H4962,
And He sees H7200 injustice H205 [fn]without H3808 investigating H995.
12 “[fn]An idiot H376 H5014 will become H3823 intelligent H3823
When a wild H6501 donkey H5895 is born H3205 a human H120.
13 “If H518 you would direct H3559 your heart H3820 rightly
And spread H6566 out H6566 your hands H3709 to Him,
14 If H518 wrongdoing H205 is in your hand H3027, put H7368 it far H7368 away H7368,
And do not let malice H5766 dwell H7931 in your tents H168;
15 Then H227, indeed H3588, you could lift H5375 up H5375 your face H6440 without H4480 moral blemish H3971,
And you would be firmly H3332 established H3332 and not fear H3372.
16 “For you would forget H7911 your trouble H5999;
Like waters H4325 that have passed H5674 by H5674, you would remember H2142 it.
17 “Your [fn]life H2465 would [fn]be H6965 brighter H6965 than H4480 noonday H6672;
Darkness H5774 would be like the morning H1242.
18 “Then you would trust H982, because H3588 there H3426 is H3426 hope H8615;
And you would look H2658 around H2658 and rest H7901 securely H983.
19 “You would lie H7257 down H7257 and none H369 would disturb H2729 you,
And many H7227 would [fn]flatter H2470 H6440 you.
20 “But the eyes H5869 of the wicked H7563 will fail H3615,
And [fn]there will be no H6 escape H4498 for them;
And their hope H8615 is [fn]to breathe H4646 their last H4646 H5315.”
