Isaiah 49 :: New American Standard Bible 2020 (NASB20)

Listen ^H8085 to Me, you islands ^H339,

And pay ^H7181 attention ^H7181, you peoples ^H3816 from afar ^H7350.

The LORD ^H3068 called ^H7121 Me from the womb ^H990;

From the [fn]body ^H4578 of My mother ^H517 He named ^H2142 H8034 Me.

He has made ^H7760 My mouth ^H6310 like a sharp ^H2299 sword ^H2719,

In the shadow ^H6738 of His hand ^H3027 He has concealed ^H2244 Me;

And He has also made ^H7760 Me a sharpened ^H1305 arrow ^H2671,

He has hidden ^H5641 Me in His quiver ^H827.

He said ^H559 to Me, “You are My Servant ^H5650, Israel ^H3478,

In whom ^H834 I will show ^H6286 My glory ^H6286.”

But I said ^H559, “I have labored ^H3021 in vain ^H7385,

I have spent ^H3615 My strength ^H3581 for nothing ^H8414 and futility ^H1892;

Nevertheless ^H403, the justice ^H4941 due to Me is with the LORD ^H3068,

And My reward ^H6468 is with My God ^H430.”

And now ^H6258 says ^H559 the LORD ^H3068, who formed ^H3335 Me from the womb ^H990 to be His Servant ^H5650,

To bring ^H7725 Jacob ^H3290 back ^H7725 to Him, so that Israel ^H3478 might be gathered ^H622 to Him

(For I am honored ^H3513 in the sight ^H5869 of the LORD ^H3068,

And My God ^H430 is My strength ^H5797),

He says ^H559, “It is ^H7043 too ^H4480 [fn]small ^H7043 a thing ^H7043 that You should be My Servant ^H5650

To raise ^H6965 up ^H6965 the tribes ^H7626 of Jacob ^H3290 and to restore ^H7725 the protected ^H5336 ones of Israel ^H3478;

I will also make ^H5414 You a light ^H216 [fn]of the nations ^H1471

So that My salvation ^H3444 may [fn]reach ^H1961 to the end ^H7097 of the earth ^H776.”

This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068, the Redeemer ^H1350 of Israel ^H3478 and its Holy ^H6918 One ^H6918,

“They will not hunger ^H7456 or thirst ^H6770,

Nor ^H3808 will the scorching ^H8273 heat ^H8273 or sun ^H8121 strike ^H5221 them down ^H5221;

For He who has ^H7355 compassion ^H7355 on ^H7355 them will lead ^H5090 them,

And He will guide ^H5095 them to springs ^H4002 of water ^H4325.

“I will make ^H7760 all ^H3605 My mountains ^H2022 a road ^H1870,

And My highways ^H4546 will be raised ^H7311 up ^H7311.

“Behold ^H2009, these ^H428 will come ^H935 from afar ^H7350;

And behold ^H2009, these ^H428 will come from the north ^H6828 and from the west ^H3220,

And these ^H428 from the land ^H776 of Aswan ^H5515.”

Shout ^H7442 for ^H7442 joy ^H7442, you heavens ^H8064! And rejoice ^H1523, you earth ^H776!

Break ^H6476 forth ^H6476 into joyful ^H7440 shouting ^H7440, mountains ^H2022!

For the LORD ^H3068 has comforted ^H5162 His people ^H5971

And will have ^H7355 compassion ^H7355 on ^H7355 His afflicted ^H6041.

But Zion ^H6726 said ^H559, “The LORD ^H3068 has abandoned ^H5800 me,

Your destroyers ^H2040 and devastators ^H2717

As I live ^H2416,” declares ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068,

“For your ruins ^H2723 and deserted ^H8074 places and your destroyed ^H2035 land ^H776—

Now ^H6258 you will certainly ^H3588 be ^H6887 too ^H4480 cramped ^H6887 for the inhabitants ^H3427,

And those who swallowed ^H1104 you will be ^H7368 far ^H7368 away ^H7368.

“The children ^H1121 [fn]you lost ^H7923 will yet ^H5750 say ^H559 in your ears ^H241,

‘The place ^H4725 is too cramped ^H6862 for me;

Make ^H5066 room ^H5066 for me that I may live ^H3427 here.’

“Then you will say ^H559 in your heart ^H3824,

‘Who ^H4310 has fathered ^H3205 these ^H428 for me,

Since I have been bereaved ^H7909 of ^H7909 my children ^H7909

And cannot ^H1565 conceive ^H1565, and I am an exile ^H1540, and a wanderer ^H5493?

And who ^H4310 has raised ^H1431 these ^H428?

Behold ^H2005, I was left ^H7604 alone ^H905;

[fn]Where ^H375 are these ^H428 from?’”

This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the Lord ^H136 [fn]GOD ^H3068 says ^H559:

“Behold ^H2009, I will lift ^H5375 up ^H5375 My hand ^H3027 to the nations ^H1471

And set ^H7311 up ^H7311 My flag ^H5251 to the peoples ^H5971;

And they will bring ^H935 your sons ^H1121 [fn]in their arms ^H2684,

And your daughters ^H1323 will be carried ^H5375 on their shoulders ^H3802.

“Kings ^H4428 will be your guardians ^H539,

And their princesses ^H8282 your nurses ^H3243.

They will bow ^H2331 down ^H2331 to you with their faces ^H639 to the ground ^H776

And lick ^H3897 the dust ^H6083 from your feet ^H7272;

And you will know ^H3045 that I am the LORD ^H3068;

Those who ^H834 hopefully ^H6960 wait ^H6960 for Me will not be put ^H954 to ^H954 shame ^H954.

“Can the prey ^H4455 be taken ^H3947 from a mighty ^H1368 man ^H1368,

Or ^H518 the captives ^H7628 of [fn]a tyrant be rescued ^H4422?”

Indeed ^H3588, this ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068 says ^H559:

“Even ^H1571 the captives ^H7628 of the mighty ^H1368 man ^H1368 will be taken ^H3947 away,

And the prey ^H4455 of a tyrant ^H6184 will be rescued ^H4422;

For I will contend ^H7378 with the one ^H3401 who ^H3401 contends ^H3401 with you,

And I will save ^H3467 your sons ^H1121.

“I will feed ^H398 your oppressors ^H3238 with their own flesh ^H1320,

And they will become ^H7937 drunk ^H7937 with their own blood ^H1818 as with sweet ^H6071 wine ^H6071;

And [fn]humanity ^H1320 will know ^H3045 that I, the LORD ^H3068, am your Savior ^H3467

And your Redeemer ^H1350, the Mighty ^H46 One ^H46 of Jacob ^H3290.”
