Israel Provoked God

1 “Hear ^H8085, Israel ^H3478! You are crossing ^H5674 the Jordan ^H3383 today ^H3117, to go ^H935 in ^H935 to dispossess ^H3423 nations ^H1471 greater ^H1419 and mightier ^H6099 than ^H4480 you, cities ^H5892 that are great ^H1419 and fortified ^H1219 to heaven ^H8064,

2 a people ^H5971 who are great ^H1419 and tall ^H7311, the sons ^H1121 of the Anakim ^H6062, whom ^H834 you know ^H3045 and of whom ^H834 you have heard ^H8085 it said, ‘Who ^H4310 can stand ^H3320 against ^H6440 the sons ^H1121 of Anak ^H6061?’ 3 So be ^H3045 aware ^H3045 today ^H3117 that it is the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430 who is crossing ^H5674 over ^H5674 ahead ^H6440 of you as a consuming ^H398 fire ^H784. He will destroy ^H8045 them and He will subdue ^H3665 them before ^H6440 you, so that you may drive ^H3423 them out ^H3423 and eliminate ^H6 them quickly ^H4118, just ^H834 as ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 has spoken ^H1696 to you.

4 “Do not say ^H559 in your heart ^H3824 when the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430 has driven ^H1920 them away ^H1920 from [fn]you, ‘Because of my righteousness ^H6666 the LORD ^H3068 has brought ^H935 me in ^H935 to take ^H3423 possession ^H3423 of this ^H2088 land ^H776.’ Rather, it is because of the [fn]wickedness ^H7564 of these ^H428 nations ^H1471 that the LORD ^H3068 is dispossessing ^H3423 them before ^H4480 H6440 you. 5 It is not because of your righteousness ^H6666 or the uprightness ^H3476 of your heart ^H3824 that you are going ^H935 in ^H935 to take ^H3423 possession ^H3423 of their land ^H776, [fn]but it is because ^H3588 of the [fn]wickedness ^H7564 of these ^H428 nations ^H1471 that the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430 is driving ^H3423 them out ^H3423 from before ^H6440 you, and in ^H4616 order ^H4616 to ^H4616 confirm ^H6965 the [fn]oath ^H1697 which ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 swore ^H7650 to your fathers ^H1, to Abraham ^H85, Isaac ^H3327, and Jacob ^H3290.

22 “Then at Taberah ^H8404, at Massah ^H4532, and at Kibroth-hattaavah ^H6914 you kept provoking ^H7107 the LORD ^H3068 to ^H7107 anger ^H7107. 23 And when the LORD ^H3068 sent ^H7971 you from Kadesh-barnea ^H6947, saying ^H559, ‘Go ^H5927 up ^H5927 and take ^H3423 possession ^H3423 of the land ^H776 which ^H834 I have given ^H5414 you,’ you rebelled ^H4784 against ^H854 the [fn]command ^H6310 of the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430; you neither ^H3808 trusted ^H539 Him nor ^H3808 listened ^H8085 to His voice ^H6963. 24 You have been ^H1961 rebellious ^H4784 toward ^H5973 the LORD ^H3068 since ^H4480 the day ^H3117 I knew ^H3045 you.

25 “So I fell ^H5307 down ^H5307 before ^H6440 the LORD ^H3068 for the forty ^H705 days ^H3117 and nights ^H3915, which ^H834 I [fn]did ^H5307 because ^H3588 the LORD ^H3068 said ^H559 He would destroy ^H8045 you. 26 And I prayed ^H6419 to the LORD ^H3068 and said ^H559, ‘Lord ^H136 GOD ^H3068, do not destroy ^H7843 Your people ^H5971, Your inheritance ^H5159, whom ^H834 You have redeemed ^H6299 through Your greatness ^H1433, whom ^H834 You have brought ^H3318 out ^H3318 of Egypt ^H4714 with a mighty ^H2389 hand ^H3027! 27 Remember ^H2142 Your servants ^H5650, Abraham ^H85, Isaac ^H3327, and Jacob ^H3290; do not turn ^H6437 Your attention ^H6437 to the stubbornness ^H7190 of this ^H2088 people ^H5971, or to their wickedness ^H7562, or their sin ^H2403. 28 Otherwise ^H6435, the people of the land ^H776 from which ^H834 You brought ^H3318 us will say ^H559, “Since ^H4480 H1097 the LORD ^H3068 was ^H3201 not able ^H3201 to bring ^H935 them into the land ^H776 which ^H834 He had [fn]promised ^H1696 them, and since ^H4480 He hated ^H8135 them, He has brought ^H3318 them out ^H3318 to kill ^H4191 them in the wilderness ^H4057!” 29 Yet they are Your people ^H5971, and Your inheritance ^H5159, whom ^H834 You brought ^H3318 out ^H3318 by Your great ^H1419 power ^H3581 and Your outstretched ^H5186 arm ^H2220.’
