The Ten Commandments Repeated

1 Now Moses ^H4872 summoned ^H7121 all ^H3605 Israel ^H3478 and said ^H559 to them:

“Listen ^H8085, Israel ^H3478, to the statutes ^H2706 and ordinances ^H4941 which ^H834 I am speaking ^H1696 today ^H3117 [fn]for you to hear ^H241, so that you may learn ^H3925 them and be ^H8104 careful ^H8104 to do ^H6213 them.

2 The LORD ^H3068 our God ^H430 made ^H3772 a covenant ^H1285 with us at Horeb ^H2722. 3 The LORD ^H3068 did not make ^H3772 this ^H2088 covenant ^H1285 with our fathers ^H1, but with us, all ^H3605 [fn]of us who are alive ^H2416 here ^H6311 today ^H3117. 4 The LORD ^H3068 spoke ^H1696 with you face ^H6440 to face ^H6440 at the mountain ^H2022 from the midst ^H8432 of the fire ^H784, 5 while I was standing ^H5975 between ^H996 the LORD ^H3068 and you at that time ^H6256, to declare ^H5046 to you the word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068; for you were ^H3372 afraid ^H3372 because ^H4480 H6440 of the fire ^H784, and you did not go ^H5927 up ^H5927 on the mountain ^H2022. 6 ‘I am the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430 who ^H834 brought ^H3318 you out ^H3318 of the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714, out of the house ^H1004 of [fn]slavery ^H5650.

7 ‘You shall have ^H1961 no ^H3808 other ^H312 gods ^H430 besides ^H5921 H6440 Me.

8 ‘You shall not make ^H6213 for yourself a carved ^H6459 image ^H6459, or any ^H3605 [fn]likeness ^H8544 of what ^H834 is in heaven ^H8064 above ^H4480 H4605 [fn]or on the earth ^H776 beneath ^H4480 H8478 [fn]or in the water ^H4325 under ^H8478 the earth ^H776. 9 You shall not worship ^H2331 them nor ^H3808 serve ^H5647 them; for I, the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430, am a jealous ^H7067 God ^H410, inflicting ^H6485 the [fn]punishment ^H5771 of the fathers ^H1 on the children ^H1121, [fn]even on the third ^H8029 and fourth ^H7256 generations of those who hate ^H8130 Me, 10 but showing ^H6213 [fn]favor ^H2617 to thousands ^H505, to those who love ^H157 Me and keep ^H8104 My commandments ^H4687.

11 ‘You shall not take ^H5375 the name ^H8034 of the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430 [fn]in vain ^H7723, for the LORD ^H3068 will not [fn]leave ^H5352 unpunished ^H5352 the one who ^H834 takes ^H5375 His name ^H8034 in vain ^H7723.

12 ‘Keep ^H8104 the Sabbath ^H7676 day ^H3117 to treat ^H6942 it as ^H6942 holy ^H6942, as the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430 commanded ^H6680 you. 13 For six ^H8337 days ^H3117 you [fn]shall labor ^H5647 and do ^H6213 all ^H3605 your work ^H4399, 14 but the seventh ^H7637 day ^H3117 is a Sabbath ^H7676 of the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430; you shall not do ^H6213 any ^H3605 work ^H4399 that day, you or your son ^H1121 or your daughter ^H1323, or your male ^H5650 slave ^H5650 or your female ^H519 slave ^H519, or your ox ^H7794, your donkey ^H2543, or any ^H3605 of your cattle ^H929, or your [fn]resident ^H1616 who ^H834 [fn]stays with you, so ^H4616 that ^H4616 your male ^H5650 slave ^H5650 and your female ^H519 slave ^H519 may rest ^H5117 as well as you. 15 And you shall remember ^H2142 that you were a slave ^H5650 in the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714, and the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430 brought ^H3318 you out ^H3318 of there ^H8033 by a mighty ^H2389 hand ^H3027 and an outstretched ^H5186 arm ^H2220; therefore ^H5921 H3651 the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430 commanded ^H6680 you to [fn]celebrate ^H6213 the Sabbath ^H7676 day ^H3117.

16 ‘Honor ^H3513 your father ^H1 and your mother ^H517, just ^H834 as ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430 has commanded ^H6680 you, so ^H4616 that ^H4616 your days ^H3117 may be prolonged ^H748 and that it may go ^H3190 well ^H3190 for you on the land ^H127 which ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430 is giving ^H5414 you.

17 ‘You shall not murder ^H7523.

18 ‘You shall not commit ^H5003 adultery ^H5003.

19 ‘You shall not steal ^H1589.

20 ‘You shall not give ^H6030 false ^H7723 testimony ^H5707 against your neighbor ^H7453.

21 ‘You shall not covet ^H2530 your neighbor’s ^H7453 wife ^H802, nor ^H3808 desire ^H183 your neighbor’s ^H7453 house ^H1004, his field ^H7704, his male ^H5650 slave ^H5650 or his female ^H519 slave ^H519, his ox ^H7794, his donkey ^H2543, or anything ^H3605 that belongs to your neighbor ^H7453.’

Moses Interceded

22 “These ^H428 words ^H1697 the LORD ^H3068 spoke ^H1696 to your whole ^H3605 assembly ^H6951 at the mountain ^H2022 from the midst ^H8432 of the fire ^H784, from the cloud ^H6051, and from the thick ^H6205 darkness ^H6205, with a great ^H1419 voice ^H6963, and He added ^H3254 nothing ^H3808 more ^H3254. He wrote ^H3789 them on two ^H8147 tablets ^H3871 of stone ^H68 and gave ^H5414 them to me.

23 And when you heard ^H8085 the voice ^H6963 from the midst ^H8432 of the darkness ^H2822, while the mountain ^H2022 was burning ^H1197 with fire ^H784, you approached ^H7126 me, all ^H3605 the heads ^H7218 of your tribes ^H7626 and your elders ^H2205. 24 You said ^H559, ‘Behold ^H2005, the LORD ^H3068 our God ^H430 has shown ^H7200 us His glory ^H3519 and His greatness ^H1433, and we have heard ^H8085 His voice ^H6963 from the midst ^H8432 of the fire ^H784; we have seen ^H7200 today ^H2088 H3117 that God ^H430 speaks ^H1696 with mankind ^H120, yet he lives ^H2421. 25 Now ^H6258 then, why ^H4100 should we die ^H4191? For this ^H2088 great ^H1419 fire ^H784 will consume ^H398 us; if ^H518 we hear ^H8085 the voice ^H6963 of the LORD ^H3068 our God ^H430 any ^H5750 longer ^H5750, then we will die ^H4191! 26 For who ^H4310 is there of [fn]humanity ^H1320 who ^H834 has heard ^H8085 the voice ^H6963 of the living ^H2416 God ^H430 speaking ^H1696 from the midst ^H8432 of the fire ^H784, as we have, and lived ^H2421? 27 [fn]Go ^H7126 near ^H7126 and listen ^H8085 to everything ^H3605 that the LORD ^H3068 our God ^H430 says ^H559; then speak ^H1696 to us everything ^H3605 that the LORD ^H3068 our God ^H430 speaks ^H1696 to you, and we will listen ^H8085 and do ^H6213 it.’

28 “Now the LORD ^H3068 heard ^H8085 the sound ^H6963 of your words ^H1697 when you spoke ^H1696 to me, and the LORD ^H3068 said ^H559 to me, ‘I have heard ^H8085 the sound ^H6963 of the words ^H1697 of this ^H2088 people ^H5971 which ^H834 they have spoken ^H1696 to you. They have done ^H3190 well ^H3190 in all ^H3605 that they have spoken ^H1696. 29 If ^H4310 H5414 only ^H4310 H5414 they had ^H1961 such ^H2088 a heart ^H3824 in them, to fear ^H3372 Me and keep ^H8104 all ^H3605 My commandments ^H4687 always ^H3605 H3117, so ^H4616 that ^H4616 it would go ^H3190 well ^H3190 with them and with their sons ^H1121 forever ^H5769! 30 Go ^H1980, say ^H559 to them, “Return ^H7725 to your tents ^H168.” 31 But as for you, stand ^H5975 here ^H6311 by Me, that I may speak ^H1696 to you all ^H3605 the commandments ^H4687, the statutes ^H2706, and the judgments ^H4941 which ^H834 you shall teach ^H3925 them, so that they may [fn]follow ^H6213 them in the land ^H776 which ^H834 I am giving ^H5414 them to possess ^H3423.’ 32 So you shall be ^H8104 careful ^H8104 to do ^H6213 just ^H834 as ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430 has commanded ^H6680 you; you shall not turn ^H5493 aside ^H5493 to the right ^H3225 or to the left ^H8040. 33 You shall walk ^H1980 [fn]entirely ^H3605 in the way ^H1870 which ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430 has commanded ^H6680 you, so ^H4616 that ^H4616 you may live ^H2421 and that it may be well ^H2895 for you, and that you may prolong ^H748 your days ^H3117 in the land ^H776 which ^H834 you will possess ^H3423.
