The Curses at Mount Ebal
1 Then Moses H4872 and the elders H2205 of Israel H3478 commanded H6680 the people H5971, saying H559, “Keep H8104 all H3605 the commandments H4687 which H834 I am commanding H6680 you today H3117.
2 So it shall be on the day H3117 when H834 you cross H5674 the Jordan H3383 to the land H776 which H834 the LORD H3068 your God H430 is giving H5414 you, that you shall set H6965 up H6965 for yourself large H1419 stones H68 and coat H7874 them with lime H7875 3 and write H3789 on them all H3605 the words H1697 of this H2088 Law H8451, when you cross H5674 over H5674, so H4616 that H4616 you may enter H935 the land H776 which H834 the LORD H3068 your God H430 is giving H5414 you, a land H776 flowing H2100 with milk H2461 and honey H1706, just H834 as H834 the LORD H3068, the God H430 of your fathers H1, [fn]promised H1696 you. 4 So it shall be when you cross H5674 the Jordan H3383, you shall set H6965 up H6965 these H428 stones H68 on Mount H2022 Ebal H5858, [fn]as I am commanding H6680 you today H3117, and you shall coat H7874 them with lime H7875. 5 Moreover, you shall build H1129 there H8033 an altar H4196 to the LORD H3068 your God H430, an altar H4196 of stones H68; you shall not wield H5130 an iron H1270 tool on them. 6 You shall build H1129 the altar H4196 of the LORD H3068 your God H430 of [fn]uncut H8003 stones H68, and you shall offer H5927 on it burnt H5930 offerings H5930 to the LORD H3068 your God H430; 7 and you shall sacrifice H2076 peace H8002 offerings H8002 and eat H398 there H8033, and rejoice H8055 before H6440 the LORD H3068 your God H430. 8 You shall write H3789 on the [fn]stones H68 all H3605 the words H1697 of this H2088 Law H8451 very H3190 clearly H874.”
9 Then Moses H4872 and the Levitical H3881 priests H3548 spoke H1696 to all H3605 Israel H3478, saying H559, “Be silent H5535 and listen H8085, Israel H3478! This H2088 day H3117 you have become H1961 a people H5971 for the LORD H3068 your God H430. 10 So you shall [fn]obey H8085 H6963 the LORD H3068 your God H430, and do H6213 His commandments H4687 and His statutes H2706 which H834 I am commanding H6680 you today H3117.”
11 Moses H4872 also commanded H6680 the people H5971 on that day H3117, saying H559, 12 “When you cross H5674 the Jordan H3383, these H428 tribes shall stand H5975 on Mount H2022 Gerizim H1630 to bless H1288 the people H5971: Simeon H8095, Levi H3878, Judah H3063, Issachar H3485, Joseph H3130, and Benjamin H1144. 13 For the curse H7045, these H428 tribes shall stand H5975 on Mount H2022 Ebal H5858: Reuben H7205, Gad H1410, Asher H836, Zebulun H2074, Dan H1835, and Naphtali H5321. 14 The Levites H3881 shall then respond H6030 and say H559 to all H3605 the people H376 of Israel H3478 with a loud H7311 voice H6963,
15 ‘Cursed H779 is the person H376 who H834 makes H6213 a carved H6459 image H6459 or cast H4541 metal H4541 image H4541, an abomination H8441 to the LORD H3068, the work H4639 of the hands H3027 of a craftsman H2796, and sets H7760 it up H7760 in secret H5643.’ And all H3605 the people H5971 shall reply H6030 and say H559, ‘Amen H543.’
16 ‘Cursed H779 is one who treats H7034 his father H1 or mother H517 contemptuously H7034.’ And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559, ‘Amen H543.’
17 ‘Cursed H779 is one who displaces H5472 his neighbor’s H7453 boundary H1366 marker H1366.’ And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559, ‘Amen H543.’
18 ‘Cursed H779 is one who misleads H7686 a person H5787 who is blind H5787 on the road H1870.’ And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559, ‘Amen H543.’
19 ‘Cursed H779 is one who distorts H5186 the justice H4941 due a stranger H1616, an [fn]orphan H3490, or a widow H490.’ And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559, ‘Amen H543.’
20 ‘Cursed H779 is he who sleeps H7901 with his father’s H1 wife H802, because H3588 he has [fn]uncovered H1540 his father’s H1 garment H3671.’ And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559, ‘Amen H543.’
21 ‘Cursed H779 is one who has H7901 sexual H7901 intercourse H7901 with any H3605 animal H929.’ And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559, ‘Amen H543.’
22 ‘Cursed H779 is he who sleeps H7901 with his sister H269, the daughter H1323 of his father H1 or H176 of his mother H517.’ And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559, ‘Amen H543.’
23 ‘Cursed H779 is he who sleeps H7901 with his mother-in-law H2859.’ And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559, ‘Amen H543.’
24 ‘Cursed H779 is he who attacks H5221 his neighbor H7453 in secret H5643.’ And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559, ‘Amen H543.’
25 ‘Cursed H779 is he who accepts H3947 a bribe H7810 to attack H5221 an innocent H5355 H1818 person H5315.’ And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559, ‘Amen H543.’
26 ‘Cursed H779 is anyone who H834 does not fulfill H6965 the words H1697 of this H2088 Law H8451 by doing H6213 them.’ And all H3605 the people H5971 shall say H559, ‘Amen H543.’
