“Only pay attention and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things which your eyes have seen and they do not depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your grandchildren [impressing these things on their mind and penetrating their heart with these truths]—
“Beware that you do not forget the LORD your God by failing to keep His commandments and His judgments (precepts) and His statutes which I am commanding you today;
“[fn]When you reap your harvest in your field and have forgotten a sheaf [of grain] in the field, you shall not go back to get it; it shall be for the stranger, for the orphan, and for the widow, so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.
“You were unmindful of the Rock who bore you,
And you forgot the God who gave you birth.
And the Israelites did evil in the sight of the LORD, and they forgot the LORD their God and served the Baals and the [fn]Asheroth.

The worm feeds on him until he is no longer remembered.
And wickedness will be broken like a tree [which cannot be restored].
“He breaks open (mine) shafts far away from where people live,
[In places] forgotten by the [human] foot;
They dangle [in the mines] and hang away from men.
For He who avenges blood [unjustly shed] remembers them (His people);
He does not forget the cry of the afflicted and abused.
For the poor will not always be forgotten,
Nor the hope of the burdened perish forever.
He says to himself, “God has [quite] forgotten;
He has hidden His face; He will never see my deed.”
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
How long, O LORD? Will You forget me forever?
How long will You hide Your face from me?
I will say to God my rock, “Why have You forgotten me?
Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?”
All this has come upon us, yet we have not forgotten You,
Nor have we been false to Your covenant [which You made with our fathers].
Hear, O daughter, consider and incline your ear [to my instruction]:
Forget your people and your father’s house;
“Now consider this, you who forget God,
Or I will tear you in pieces, and there will be no one to rescue [you].
Do not kill them, or my people will forget;
Scatter them and make them wander [endlessly] back and forth by Your power, and bring them down,
O Lord our shield!
Oh, do not hand over the soul of your turtledove to the wild beast;
Do not forget the life of Your afflicted forever.
Do not forget the [clamoring] voices of Your adversaries,
The uproar of those who rise against You, which ascends continually [to Your ears].
That they should place their confidence in God
And not forget the works of God,
But keep His commandments,
And they forgot His [incredible] works
And His miraculous wonders that He had shown them.
My heart has been struck like grass and withered,
Indeed, [absorbed by my heartache] I forget to eat my food.
Bless and affectionately praise the LORD, O my soul,
And do not forget any of His benefits;
But they quickly forgot His works;
They did not [patiently] wait for His counsel and purpose [to be revealed regarding them],
