When the LORD saw that human wickedness was widespread on the earth and that every inclination of the human mind was nothing but evil all the time,
“I will take nothing except what the servants have eaten. But as for the share of the men who came with me — Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre — they can take their share.”
“Look, I’ve got two daughters who haven’t been intimate with a man. I’ll bring them out to you, and you can do whatever you want[fn] to them. However, don’t do anything to these men, because they have come under the protection of my roof.”
Abraham replied, “I thought, ‘There is absolutely no fear of God in this place. They will kill me because of my wife.’
“If the woman is unwilling to follow you, then you are free from this oath to me, but don’t let my son go back there.”
“You will not harm us, just as we have not harmed you but have done only what was good to you, sending you away in peace. You are now blessed by the LORD.”
The only land he did not acquire belonged to the priests, for they had an allowance from Pharaoh. They ate from their allowance that Pharaoh gave them; therefore they did not sell their land.
So Joseph made it a law, still in effect today in the land of Egypt, that a fifth of the produce belongs to Pharaoh. Only the priests’ land does not belong to Pharaoh.

Moses said to Pharaoh, “You may have the honor of choosing. When should I appeal on behalf of you, your officials, and your people, that the frogs be taken away from you and your houses, and remain only in the Nile? ”

“But your wives, dependents, and livestock — I know that you have a lot of livestock — will remain in the cities I have given you
“Carefully follow them, for this will show your wisdom and understanding in the eyes of the peoples. When they hear about all these statutes, they will say, ‘This great nation is indeed a wise and understanding people.’
“Only be on your guard and diligently watch yourselves, so that you don’t forget the things your eyes have seen and so that they don’t slip from your mind[fn] as long as you live. Teach them to your children and your grandchildren.
“Yet the LORD had his heart set on your ancestors and loved them. He chose their descendants after them — he chose you out of all the peoples, as it is today.
“But whenever you want, you may slaughter and eat meat within any of your city gates, according to the blessing the LORD your God has given you. Those who are clean or unclean may eat it, as they would a gazelle or deer,
“But don’t eat the blood, since the blood is the life, and you must not eat the life with the meat.
“But you are to take the holy offerings you have and your vow offerings and go to the place the LORD chooses.
“if only you obey the LORD your God and are careful to follow every one of these commands I am giving you today.
“However, he must not acquire many horses for himself or send the people back to Egypt to acquire many horses, for the LORD has told you, ‘You are never to go back that way again.’
“But you may take the women, dependents, animals, and whatever else is in the city — all its spoil — as plunder. You may enjoy the spoil of your enemies that the LORD your God has given you.
“However, you must not let any living thing survive among the cities of these people the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance.
“But you may destroy the trees that you know do not produce food. You may cut them down to build siege works against the city that is waging war against you, until it falls.
“The LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you will only move upward and never downward if you listen to the LORD your God’s commands I am giving you today and are careful to follow them.
“A people you don’t know will eat your land’s produce and everything you have labored for. You will only be oppressed and crushed continually.
“Above all, be strong and very courageous to observe carefully the whole instruction my servant Moses commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right or the left, so that you will have success wherever you go.
“We will obey you, just as we obeyed Moses in everything. Certainly the LORD your God will be with you, as he was with Moses.
“Anyone who rebels against your order and does not obey your words in all that you command him, will be put to death. Above all, be strong and courageous! ”
Early on the seventh day, they started at dawn and marched around the city seven times in the same way. That was the only day they marched around the city seven times.
“But the city and everything in it are set apart to the LORD for destruction. Only Rahab the prostitute and everyone with her in the house will live, because she hid the messengers we sent.
“But keep yourselves from the things set apart, or you will be set apart for destruction. If you[fn] take any of those things, you will set apart the camp of Israel for destruction and make trouble for it.
They burned the city and everything in it, but they put the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron into the treasury of the LORD’s house.
“Treat Ai and its king as you did Jericho and its king, except that you may plunder its spoil and livestock for yourselves. Set an ambush behind the city.”
Israel plundered only the cattle and spoil of that city for themselves, according to the LORD’s command that he had given Joshua.
