Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Better to approach in obedience than to offer the sacrifice as fools do, for they ignorantly do wrong.

Wail! For the day of the LORD is near.

It will come as destruction from the Almighty.

Hyenas will howl in the fortresses,

and jackals, in the luxurious palaces.

Babylon’s time is almost up;

her days are almost over.

“You who are far off, hear what I have done;

you who are near, know my strength.”

The one who vindicates me is near;

who will contend with me?

Let us confront each other.[fn]

Who has a case against me?[fn]

Let him come near me!
