“Your offspring will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out toward the west, the east, the north, and the south. All the peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.

David was angry because of the LORD’s outburst against Uzzah, so he named that place Outburst Against Uzzah,[fn] as it is today.

The king replied to Absalom, “No, my son, we should not all go, or we would be a burden to you.” Although Absalom urged him, he wasn’t willing to go, though he did bless him.

But Absalom urged him, so he sent Amnon and all the king’s sons.[fn]

But Naaman insisted, “Please, accept one hundred fifty pounds.”[fn] He urged Gehazi and then packed one hundred fifty pounds of silver in two bags with two sets of clothing. Naaman gave them to two of his attendants who carried them ahead of Gehazi.

They said to me, “The remnant in the province, who survived the exile, are in great trouble and disgrace. Jerusalem’s wall has been broken down, and its gates have been burned.”

I went out at night through the Valley Gate toward the Serpent’s[fn] Well and the Dung Gate, and I inspected the walls of Jerusalem that had been broken down and its gates that had been destroyed by fire.

Then Tobiah the Ammonite, who was beside him, said, “Indeed, even if a fox climbed up what they are building, he would break down their stone wall! ”

When Sanballat, Tobiah, and the Arabs, Ammonites, and Ashdodites heard that the repair to the walls of Jerusalem was progressing and that the gaps were being closed, they became furious.

“Haven’t you placed a hedge around him, his household, and everything he owns? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.

He breaks through my defenses again and again;[fn]

he charges at me like a warrior.

He cuts a shaft far from human habitation,

in places unknown to those who walk above ground.

Suspended far away from people,

the miners swing back and forth.

God, you have rejected us;

you have broken us down;

you have been angry. Restore us![fn]

Why have you broken down its walls

so that all who pass by pick its fruit?

You have broken down all his walls;

you have reduced his fortified cities to ruins.

They angered the LORD with their deeds,

and a plague broke out against them.

then your barns will be completely filled,

and your vats will overflow with new wine.

A person who does not control his temper

is like a city whose wall is broken down.

a time to kill and a time to heal;

a time to tear down and a time to build;

The one who digs a pit may fall into it,

and the one who breaks through a wall may be bitten by a snake.

Now I will tell you

what I am about to do to my vineyard:

I will remove its hedge,

and it will be consumed;

I will tear down its wall,

and it will be trampled.

“For you will spread out to the right and to the left,

and your descendants will dispossess nations

and inhabit the desolate cities.

Cursing, lying, murder, stealing,

and adultery are rampant;

one act of bloodshed follows another.

They will eat but not be satisfied;

they will be promiscuous but not multiply.

For they have abandoned their devotion to the LORD.

One who breaks open the way

will advance before them;

they will break out, pass through the city gate,

and leave by it.

Their King will pass through before them,

the LORD as their leader.
