He took all the livestock and possessions he had acquired in Paddan-aram, and he drove his herds to go to the land of Canaan, to his father Isaac.

“You will become an object of horror, scorn, and ridicule among all the peoples where the LORD will drive you.

Then David and his men went to Keilah, fought against the Philistines, drove their livestock away, and inflicted heavy losses on them. So David rescued the inhabitants of Keilah.

They also had kidnapped the women and everyone[fn] in it from youngest to oldest. They had killed no one but had carried them off as they went on their way.

He took all the flocks and herds, which were driven ahead of the other livestock, and the people shouted, “This is David’s plunder! ”

but all the corrupt and worthless men among those who had gone with David argued, “Because they didn’t go with us, we will not give any of the plunder we recovered to them except for each man’s wife and children. They may take them and go.”

They set the ark of God on a new cart and transported it from Abinadab’s house, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio,[fn] sons of Abinadab, were guiding the cart

Then she saddled the donkey and said to her servant, “Go fast; don’t slow the pace for me unless I tell you.”

Again the watchman reported, “He reached them but hasn’t started back. Also, the driving is like that of Jehu son of Nimshi ​— ​he drives like a madman.”

At Abinadab’s house they set the ark of God on a new cart. Uzzah and Ahio[fn] were guiding the cart.

In the spring[fn] when kings march out to war, Joab led the army and destroyed the Ammonites’ land. He came to Rabbah and besieged it, but David remained in Jerusalem. Joab attacked Rabbah and demolished it.

Amaziah strengthened his position and led his people to the Salt Valley. He struck down ten thousand Seirites,[fn]

They drive away the donkeys owned by the fatherless

and take the widow’s ox as collateral.

“This God, our God forever and ever —

he will always lead us.”[fn]

He made the east wind blow in the skies

and drove the south wind by his might.

He led his people out like sheep

and guided them like a flock in the wilderness.

Listen, Shepherd of Israel,

who leads Joseph like a flock;

you who sit enthroned between the cherubim,

shine

I explored with my mind the pull of wine on my body ​— ​my mind still guiding me with wisdom — and how to grasp folly, until I could see what is good for people to do under heaven[fn] during the few days of their lives.

I would lead you, I would take you,

to the house of my mother who taught me.[fn]

I would give you spiced wine to drink

from the juice of my pomegranate.

The wolf will dwell with the lamb,

and the leopard will lie down with the goat.

The calf, the young lion, and the fattened calf will be together,

and a child will lead them.

“so the king of Assyria will lead the captives of Egypt and the exiles of Cush, young and old alike, stripped and barefoot, with bared buttocks ​— ​to Egypt’s shame.

They will not hunger or thirst,

the scorching heat or sun will not strike them;

for their compassionate one will guide them,

and lead them to springs.

Your city gates will always be open;

they will never be shut day or night

so that the wealth of the nations

may be brought into you,

with their kings being led in procession.

Like cattle that go down into the valley,

the Spirit of the LORD gave them[fn] rest.

You led your people this way

to make a glorious name for yourself.

He has driven me away and forced me to walk

in darkness instead of light.

Beauty[fn] is stripped;[fn]

she is carried away;

her ladies-in-waiting moan

like the sound of doves

and beat their breasts.
