“Even the priests who come near the LORD must consecrate themselves, or the LORD will break out in anger against them.”

And the people remained standing at a distance as Moses approached the total darkness where God was.

“his master is to bring him to the judges[fn] and then bring him to the door or doorpost. His master will pierce his ear with an awl, and he will serve his master for life.

“Moses alone is to approach the LORD, but the others are not to approach, and the people are not to go up with him.”

“When you bring to the LORD the grain offering made in any of these ways, it is to be presented to the priest, and he will take it to the altar.

Then he brought the bull near for the sin offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the bull for the sin offering.

“No descendant of the priest Aaron who has a defect is to come near to present the food offerings to the LORD. He has a defect and is not to come near to present the food of his God.

“But because he has a defect, he must not go near the curtain or approach the altar. He is not to desecrate my holy places, for I am the LORD who sets them apart.”

“Do this for them so that they may live and not die when they come near the most holy objects: Aaron and his sons are to go in and assign each man his task and transportation duty.

“From the Israelites, I have given the Levites exclusively to Aaron and his sons to perform the work for the Israelites at the tent of meeting and to make atonement on their behalf, so that no plague will come against the Israelites when they approach the sanctuary.”

Then they approached him and said, “We want to build sheep pens here for our livestock and cities for our dependents.

“When you are about to engage in battle, the priest is to come forward and address the army.

“Then the priests, the sons of Levi, will come forward, for the LORD your God has chosen them to serve him and pronounce blessings in his name, and they are to give a ruling in[fn] every dispute and case of assault.

“If there is a dispute between men, they are to go to court, and the judges will hear their case. They will clear the innocent and condemn the guilty.

“then his sister-in-law will go up to him in the sight of the elders, remove his sandal from his foot, and spit in his face. Then she will declare, ‘This is what is done to a man who will not build up his brother’s house.’

Then Joshua told the Israelites, “Come closer and listen to the words of the LORD your God.”

All the troops who were with him went up and approached the city, arriving opposite Ai, and camped to the north of it, with a valley between them and the city.

So Gideon went and prepared a young goat and unleavened bread from a half bushel[fn] of flour. He placed the meat in a basket and the broth in a pot. He brought them out and offered them to him under the oak.

When Abimelech came to attack the tower, he approached its entrance to set it on fire.

They went up, wept before the LORD until evening, and inquired of him, “Should we again attack our brothers the Benjaminites? ”

And the LORD answered, “Fight against them.”

At mealtime Boaz told her, “Come over here and have some bread and dip it in the vinegar sauce.” So she sat beside the harvesters, and he offered her roasted grain. She ate and was satisfied and had some left over.

Samuel was offering the burnt offering as the Philistines approached to fight against Israel. The LORD thundered loudly against the Philistines that day and threw them into such confusion that they were defeated by Israel.

Saul approached Samuel in the city gate and asked, “Would you please tell me where the seer’s house is? ”

So Saul said, “Bring me the burnt offering and the fellowship offerings.” Then he offered the burnt offering.

Saul told Ahijah, “Bring the ark of God,” for it was with the Israelites[fn] at that time.
