You will bring them in and plant them

on the mountain of your possession;

LORD, you have prepared the place

for your dwelling;

Lord,[fn] your hands have established the sanctuary.

“They are to make a sanctuary for me so that I may dwell among them.

“She will continue in purification from her bleeding for thirty-three days. She must not touch any holy thing or go into the sanctuary until completing her days of purification.

“and make atonement for the most holy place. He will make atonement for the tent of meeting and the altar and will make atonement for the priests and all the people of the assembly.

“Keep my Sabbaths and revere my sanctuary; I am the LORD.

“I will turn[fn] against that man and cut him off from his people, because he gave his offspring to Molech, defiling my sanctuary and profaning my holy name.

“He must not leave the sanctuary or he will desecrate the sanctuary of his God, for the consecration of the anointing oil of his God is on him; I am the LORD.

“But because he has a defect, he must not go near the curtain or approach the altar. He is not to desecrate my holy places, for I am the LORD who sets them apart.”

“Keep my Sabbaths and revere my sanctuary; I am the LORD.

“I will reduce your cities to ruins and devastate your sanctuaries. I will not smell the pleasing aroma of your sacrifices.

Moses, Aaron, and his sons, who performed the duties of[fn] the sanctuary as a service on behalf of the Israelites, camped in front of the tabernacle on the east, in front of the tent of meeting toward the sunrise. Any unauthorized person who came near it was to be put to death.

The Kohathites then set out, transporting the holy objects; the tabernacle was to be set up before their arrival.

The LORD said to Aaron, “You, your sons, and your ancestral family[fn] will be responsible for iniquity against the sanctuary. You and your sons will be responsible for iniquity involving your priesthood.

“You must present the entire offering due the LORD from all your gifts. The best part of the tenth is to be consecrated.

“But a person who is unclean and does not purify himself, that person will be cut off from the assembly because he has defiled the sanctuary of the LORD. The water for impurity has not been sprinkled on him; he is unclean.

Joshua recorded these things in the book of the law of God; he also took a large stone and set it up there under the oak at the sanctuary of the LORD.

“Now determine in your mind and heart to seek the LORD your God. Get started building the LORD God’s sanctuary so that you may bring the ark of the LORD’s covenant and the holy articles of God to the temple that is to be built for the name of the LORD.”

“Realize now that the LORD has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary. Be strong, and do it.”

They have lived in the land and have built you a sanctuary in it for your name and have said,

They took their stand against King Uzziah and said, “Uzziah, you have no right to offer incense to the LORD ​— ​only the consecrated priests, the descendants of Aaron, have the right to offer incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have acted unfaithfully! You will not receive honor from the LORD God.”

So he brought up against them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their fit young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary. He had no pity on young men or young women, elderly or aged; he handed them all over to him.

For the Israelites and the Levites are to bring the contributions of grain, new wine, and fresh oil to the storerooms where the articles of the sanctuary are kept and where the priests who minister are, along with the gatekeepers and singers. We will not neglect the house of our God.

God, you are awe-inspiring in your sanctuaries.

The God of Israel gives power and strength to his people.

Blessed be God!

until I entered God’s sanctuary.

Then I understood their destiny.

They set your sanctuary on fire;

they utterly[fn] desecrated

the dwelling place of your name.

He built his sanctuary like the heights,

like the earth that he established forever.

Splendor and majesty are before him;

strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

He will be a sanctuary;

but for the two houses of Israel,

he will be a stone to stumble over

and a rock to trip over,

and a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

When Moab appears

and tires himself out on the high place

and comes to his sanctuary to pray,

The glory of Lebanon will come to you —

its pine, elm, and cypress together —

Your holy people had a possession[fn]

for a little while,

but our enemies have trampled down

A glorious throne

on high from the beginning

is the place of our sanctuary.

We are ashamed

because we have heard insults.

Humiliation covers our faces

because foreigners have entered

the holy places of the LORD’s temple.

The adversary has seized

all her precious belongings.

She has even seen the nations

enter her sanctuary —

those you had forbidden

to enter your assembly.

The Lord has rejected his altar,

repudiated his sanctuary;

he has handed the walls of her palaces

over to the enemy.

They have raised a shout in the house of the LORD

as on the day of an appointed festival.

LORD, look and consider

to whom you have done this.

Should women eat their own children,

the infants they have nurtured?[fn]

Should priests and prophets

be killed in the Lord’s sanctuary?

“Therefore, as I live” ​— ​this is the declaration of the Lord GOD ​— ​“I will withdraw and show you no pity, because you have defiled my sanctuary with all your abhorrent acts and detestable practices. Yes, I will not spare you.

He said to me, “Son of man, do you see what they are doing here ​— ​more detestable acts that the house of Israel is committing ​— ​so that I must depart from my sanctuary? You will see even more detestable acts.”

“Slaughter the old men, the young men and women, as well as the children and older women, but do not come near anyone who has the mark. Begin at my sanctuary.” So they began with the elders who were in front of the temple.

“Therefore say, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says: Though I sent them far away among the nations and scattered them among the countries, yet for a little while I have been a sanctuary for them in the countries where they have gone.’

“Son of man, face Jerusalem and preach against the sanctuaries. Prophesy against the land of Israel,

“They also did this to me: they defiled my sanctuary on that same day and profaned my Sabbaths.

“Say to the house of Israel, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says: I am about to desecrate my sanctuary, the pride of your power, the delight of your eyes, and the desire of your heart. Also, the sons and daughters you left behind will fall by the sword.

“Say to the Ammonites, ‘Hear the word of the Lord GOD: This is what the Lord GOD says: Because you said, “Aha! ” about my sanctuary when it was desecrated, about the land of Israel when it was laid waste, and about the house of Judah when they went into exile,

“You profaned your sanctuaries

by the magnitude of your iniquities

in your dishonest trade.

So I made fire come from within you,

and it consumed you.

I reduced you to ashes on the ground

in the sight of everyone watching you.

“I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be a permanent covenant with them. I will establish and multiply them and will set my sanctuary among them forever.

“When my sanctuary is among them forever, the nations will know that I, the LORD, sanctify Israel.’ ”
