Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the hearts of his officials so that I may do these miraculous signs of mine among them,[fn]
“All these officials of yours will come down to me and bow before me, saying: Get out, you and all the people who follow you.[fn] After that, I will get out.” And he went out from Pharaoh’s presence fiercely angry.
Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh, but the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he would not let the Israelites go out of his land.
“and you will be my kingdom of priests and my holy nation.’ These are the words that you are to say to the Israelites.”
After Moses came back, he summoned the elders of the people and set before them all these words that the LORD had commanded him.
“And if he does not do these three things for her, she may leave free of charge, without any payment.[fn]
Moses took the blood, splattered it on the people, and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you concerning all these words.”
“These are the garments that they must make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a specially woven tunic,[fn] a turban, and a sash. They are to make holy garments for your brother Aaron and his sons so that they may serve me as priests.
He took the gold from them, fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made it into an image of a calf.
Then they said, “Israel, these are your gods,[fn] who brought you up from the land of Egypt! ”
“They have quickly turned from the way I commanded them; they have made for themselves an image of a calf. They have bowed down to it, sacrificed to it, and said, ‘Israel, these are your gods, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.’ ”
