“Resume your journey and go to the hill country of the Amorites and their neighbors in the Arabah, the hill country, the Judean foothills,[fn] the Negev and the sea coast ​— ​to the land of the Canaanites and to Lebanon as far as the great river, the Euphrates River.

“Please let me cross over and see the beautiful land on the other side of the Jordan, that good hill country and Lebanon.

“Every place the sole of your foot treads will be yours. Your territory will extend from the wilderness to Lebanon and from the Euphrates River[fn] to the Mediterranean Sea.

“Your territory will be from the wilderness and Lebanon to the great river, the Euphrates River ​— ​all the land of the Hittites ​— ​and west to the Mediterranean Sea.

When all the kings heard about Jericho and Ai, those who were west of the Jordan in the hill country, in the Judean foothills,[fn] and all along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea toward Lebanon ​— ​the Hethites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites ​— ​

from Mount Halak, which ascends to Seir, as far as Baal-gad in the Valley of Lebanon at the foot of Mount Hermon. He captured all their kings and struck them down, putting them to death.

Joshua and the Israelites struck down the following kings of the land beyond the Jordan to the west, from Baal-gad in the Valley of Lebanon to Mount Halak, which ascends toward Seir (Joshua gave their land as an inheritance to the tribes of Israel according to their allotments:

The bramble said to the trees,

“If you really are anointing me

King Jehoash of Israel sent word to King Amaziah of Judah, saying, “The thistle in Lebanon once sent a message to the cedar in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son as a wife.’ Then a wild animal in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle.

“You have mocked the Lord[fn] through[fn] your messengers.

You have said, ‘With my many chariots

I have gone up to the heights of the mountains,

to the far recesses of Lebanon.

I cut down its tallest cedars,

its choice cypress trees.

I came to its farthest outpost,

its densest forest.

Also, send me cedar, cypress, and algum[fn] logs from Lebanon, for I know that your servants know how to cut the trees of Lebanon. Note that my servants will be with your servants

We will cut logs from Lebanon, as many as you need, and bring them to you as rafts by sea to Joppa. You can then take them up to Jerusalem.

May people flourish in the cities

like the grass of the field.

The righteous thrive like a palm tree

and grow like a cedar tree in Lebanon.

The trees of the LORD flourish,[fn]

the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.

King Solomon made a carriage for himself

with wood from Lebanon.

Come with me from Lebanon,[fn] my bride;

come with me from Lebanon!

Descend from the peak of Amana,

from the summit of Senir and Hermon,

from the dens of the lions,

from the mountains of the leopards.

Your lips drip sweetness like the honeycomb, my bride.

Honey and milk are under your tongue.

The fragrance of your garments is like the fragrance of Lebanon.

You are a garden spring,

a well of flowing water

streaming from Lebanon.

His legs are alabaster pillars

set on pedestals of pure gold.

His presence is like Lebanon,

as majestic as the cedars.

Your neck is like a tower of ivory,

your eyes like pools in Heshbon

by Bath-rabbim’s gate.

Your nose is like the tower of Lebanon

looking toward Damascus.

against all the cedars of Lebanon,

lofty and lifted up,

against all the oaks of Bashan,

rejoice over you:

Isn’t it true that in just a little while

Lebanon will become an orchard,

and the orchard will seem like a forest?

The land mourns and withers;

Lebanon is ashamed and wilted.

Sharon is like a desert;

Bashan and Carmel shake off their leaves.

It will blossom abundantly

and will also rejoice with joy and singing.

The glory of Lebanon will be given to it,

the splendor of Carmel and Sharon.

They will see the glory of the LORD,

the splendor of our God.

“You have mocked the Lord through your servants.

You have said, “With my many chariots

I have gone up to the heights of the mountains,

to the far recesses of Lebanon.

I cut down its tallest cedars,

its choice cypress trees.

I came to its distant heights,

its densest forest.

Lebanon’s cedars are not enough for fuel,

or its animals enough for a burnt offering.

The glory of Lebanon will come to you —

its pine, elm, and cypress together —

to beautify the place of my sanctuary,

and I will glorify my dwelling place.[fn]

Does the snow of Lebanon ever leave the highland crags?

Or does cold water flowing from a distance ever fail?

For this is what the LORD says concerning the house of the king of Judah:

“You are like Gilead to me,

or the summit of Lebanon,

but I will certainly turn you into a wilderness,

uninhabited cities.
