Chemosh = "subduer"
the national deity of the Moabites and a god of the Ammonites
also identified with 'Baal-peor', 'Baal-zebub', 'Mars' and 'Saturn'
worship of this god was introduced into Jerusalem by Solomon and abolished by king Josiah of Judah
Ξαμώς); — god of the Moabites to whom Solomon erected a high place 1 Kings 11:7, 33; 2 Kings 23:13; Jeremiah 48:7 (Kt כמישׁ), Jeremiah 48:13. Moab is עַםכֿ׳ Numbers 21:29 (ode) people of Chemosh, and Moabites his sons and daughters, compare Jeremiah 48:46. He is said to be also the God of the Ammonites Judges 11:25 (probably an error BaeRel 15 GFM). Strong's Number H3645 matches the Hebrew כְּמוֹשׁ (kᵊmôš),
which occurs 9 times in 8 verses
in the WLC Hebrew.
Woe to you, Moab!
You have been destroyed, people of Chemosh!
He gave up his sons as refugees,
and his daughters into captivity
to Sihon the Amorite king.
“Isn’t it true that you can have whatever your god Chemosh conquers for you, and we can have whatever the LORD our God conquers for us?
At that time, Solomon built a high place for Chemosh, the abhorrent idol of Moab, and for Milcom,[fn] the abhorrent idol of the Ammonites, on the hill across from Jerusalem.
“For they have abandoned me; they have bowed down to Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Sidonians, to Chemosh, the god of Moab, and to Milcom, the god of the Ammonites. They have not walked in my ways to do what is right in my sight and to carry out my statutes and my judgments as his father David did.
The king also defiled the high places that were across from Jerusalem, to the south of the Mount of Destruction, which King Solomon of Israel had built for Ashtoreth, the abhorrent idol of the Sidonians; for Chemosh, the abhorrent idol of Moab; and for Milcom, the detestable idol of the Ammonites.
Because you trust in your works and treasures,
you will be captured also.
Chemosh will go into exile
with his priests and officials.
Moab will be put to shame because of Chemosh,
just as the house of Israel was put to shame
because of Bethel that they trusted in.
