The LORD saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians [lying] dead on the [fn]seashore.
“Happy and blessed are you, O Israel;
Who is like you, a people saved by the LORD,
The Shield of your help,
And the Sword of your majesty!
Your enemies will cringe before you,
And you will tread on their high places [tramping down their idolatrous altars].”
So the men of Gibeon sent word to Joshua at the camp in Gilgal, saying, “Do not [fn]abandon your servants; come up to us quickly and save us and help us, for all [five of] the kings of the Amorites who live in the hill country have assembled against us.”
Then the LORD raised up [fn]judges who rescued them from the hands of those who robbed them.
After Ehud came Shamgar the son of Anath, who struck down six hundred Philistine men with an [fn]oxgoad. He too saved Israel.
Then Gideon said to God, “If You are going to rescue Israel through me, as You have spoken,
Then the LORD said to Gideon, “There are too many people with you for Me to hand over Midian to them, otherwise Israel will boast [about themselves] against Me, saying, ‘My own [fn]power has rescued me.’
Then the men of Israel said to Gideon, “Rule [as king] over us, both you and your son, also your son’s son, for you have rescued us from the hand of Midian.”
After Abimelech died, Tola the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar, arose to save Israel; and he lived in Shamir, in the hill country of Ephraim.
Jonathan said to his young armor bearer, “Come, let us cross over to the garrison of these uncircumcised men; it may be that the LORD will work for us. For there is nothing to prevent the LORD from saving, whether by many or by few.”
“So now, my lord, as the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, since the LORD has prevented you from shedding blood, and from avenging yourself by your own hand, now then let your enemies and those who seek to do evil to my lord, be as [self-destructive as] Nabal.
