Strong's Number H3374 matches the Hebrew יִרְאָה (yir'â),
which occurs 42 times in 42 verses
in the WLC Hebrew.
“The God of Israel,
The Rock of Israel spoke to me,
‘He who rules over men righteously,
Who rules in the fear of God,
“Is not your fear of God your confidence,
And [is not] the integrity and uprightness of your ways your hope?
“For the despairing man there should be kindness from his friend;
So that he does not [fn]abandon (turn away from) the fear of the Almighty.
“Is it because of your fear of Him that He corrects you,
That He enters into judgment against you?
“But to man He said, ‘Behold, the reverential and worshipful fear of the Lord—that is wisdom;
And to depart from evil is understanding.’”
Worship the LORD and serve Him with reverence [with awe-inspired fear and submissive wonder];
Rejoice [yet do so] with trembling.
But as for me, I will enter Your house through the abundance of Your steadfast love and tender mercy;
At Your holy temple I will bow [obediently] in reverence for You.
The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the LORD are true, they are righteous altogether.
Come, you children, listen to me;
I will teach you to fear the LORD [with awe-inspired reverence and worship Him with obedience].
Who understands the power of Your anger? [Who connects this brevity of life among us with Your judgment of sin?]
And Your wrath, [who connects it] with the [reverent] fear that is due You?
The [reverent] fear of the LORD is the beginning (the prerequisite, the absolute essential, the alphabet) of wisdom;
A good understanding and a teachable heart are possessed by all those who do the will of the LORD;
His praise endures forever.
Establish Your word and confirm Your promise to Your servant,
As that which produces [awe-inspired] reverence for You.
The [reverent] fear of the LORD [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence];
But arrogant [fn]fools despise [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction and self-discipline.
Because they hated knowledge
And did not choose the fear of the LORD [that is, obeying Him with reverence and awe-filled respect],
Then you will understand the [reverent] fear of the LORD [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome]
And discover the knowledge of God.
“The [reverent] fear and worshipful awe of the LORD includes the hatred of evil;
Pride and arrogance and the evil way,
And the perverted mouth, I hate.
The [reverent] fear of the LORD [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of wisdom [its starting point and its essence],
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding and spiritual insight.
The [reverent] fear of the LORD [worshiping, obeying, serving, and trusting Him with awe-filled respect] prolongs one’s life,
But the years of the wicked will be shortened.
In the [reverent] fear of the LORD there is strong confidence,
And His children will [always] have a place of refuge.
The [reverent] fear of the LORD [that leads to obedience and worship] is a fountain of life,
So that one may avoid the snares of death.
Better is a little with the [reverent, worshipful] fear of the LORD
Than great treasure and trouble with it.
The [reverent] fear of the LORD [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the instruction for wisdom [its starting point and its essence];
And before honor comes humility.
By mercy and lovingkindness and truth [not superficial ritual] wickedness is cleansed from the heart,
And by the fear of the LORD one avoids evil.
The fear of the LORD leads to life,
So that one may sleep satisfied, untouched by evil.
The reward of humility [that is, having a realistic view of one’s importance] and the [reverent, worshipful] fear of the LORD
Is riches, honor, and life.
Do not let your heart envy sinners [who live godless lives and have no hope of salvation],
But [continue to] live in the [reverent, worshipful] fear of the LORD day by day.
And the Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him—
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The Spirit of counsel and strength,
The Spirit of knowledge and of the [reverential and obedient] fear of the LORD—
And He will delight in the fear of the LORD,
And He will not judge by what His eyes see,
Nor make decisions by what His ears hear;
And He will be the security and stability of your times,
A treasure of salvation, wisdom and knowledge;
The fear of the LORD is your treasure.
O LORD, why do You cause us to stray from Your ways
And harden our heart from fearing You [with reverence and awe]?
Return for Your servants’ sake, the tribes of Your heritage.
