Ahaziah the son of Ahab became king over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel for two years.
So Ahaziah [the son of King Ahab] died in accordance with the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken. And because he had no son, Jehoram [his younger brother] became king [of Israel, the northern kingdom] in his place in the [fn]second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah [the southern kingdom].
Jehoram the son of Ahab became king over Israel in Samaria in the [fn]eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.
Now in the fifth year of [fn]Joram (Jehoram) the son of Ahab king of Israel, when Jehoshaphat was king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah became king.
So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi, conspired against Joram [to dethrone and kill him]. Now Joram with all Israel was protecting Ramoth-gilead against Hazael king of Aram (Syria),
Jehoshaphat his son then became king [of Judah] in Asa’s place, and strengthened his position over Israel.
Now the dread of the LORD was on all the kingdoms of the lands surrounding Judah, so that they did not make war against Jehoshaphat.
Now Jehoshaphat had great wealth and honor, and was allied by [fn]marriage with Ahab.
Further, Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire [fn]first for the word of the LORD.”
Then the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Did I not tell you that he would not prophesy good in regard to me, but [only] evil?”
So [Ahab] the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up against Ramoth-gilead.
