f. לְיַד by the side of 1 Samuel 19:3; 1 Chronicles 18:17; 1 Chronicles 23:28; Nehemiah 11:24; Proverbs 8:3; Psalm 140:6 [Psalm 140:5].

g. מִיַּד out of the hand: —

(1) out of power of, often nearly = מִן, used idomatically with many verbs: with הִצִּיל Psalm 32:12 (twice in verse) (J), Exodus 2:19; Exodus 18:9, Exodus 18:10 (twice in verse) (all J E), 1 Samuel 17:37; מִתַּחַת יַד Exodus 18:10 (J E; so with פשׁע 2 Chronicles 21:8, 2 Chronicles 21:10 (twice in verse); compare i. below); of animals מִיַּד 1 Samuel 17:37 (twice in verse), מִיַּדכֶּֿלֶב Psalm 22:21 [Psalm 22:20]; even of inanimate things הִצִּיל מִיַּד לֶהָבָה Isaiah 47:14; with לָקַח Numbers 21:26 (JE), 1 Kings 11:34, 1 Kings 11:35; with קָרַע 1 Kings 11:12; 1 Kings 11:31; with מִלֵּט, מִיַּד שְׁאוֺל מ׳ Psalm 89:49 [Psalm 89:48]; with פָּדָה, מִיַּד שְׁאוֺל פ׳ Hosea 13:14 (|| מִמָּ֫וֶת), Psalm 49:16 [Psalm 49:15]; מִידֵי חֶרֶב פ׳ Job 5:20; pregnantly מִיּדֶ֑ךָ יִשְׁפְּטֵנִי 1 Samuel 24:16 [1 Samuel 24:15] may he (י׳) judge (and save) me out of thy hand; so 2 Samuel 18:19 and (with רִיב for שׁפט) 1 Samuel 25:39;

(2) מִיּד of separation, מִיָָּֽדְךָ נִגְזָ֑רוּ Psalm 88:6 [Psalm 88:5] of wicked, cut off from nearness to God;

(3) מִיַּד דָּרַשׁ exact (at the hand) of 2 Samuel 4:11; Genesis 9:5 (twice in verse) (P), Ezekiel 33:6; Ezekiel 34:10 (= דָּרַשׁ מֵעִם Deuteronomy 18:19), also of animals Genesis 9:5; בִּקֵּשׁ מִיַּד Ezekiel 33:8; קָנָה מִיַּד Ruth 4:5, Ruth 4:9 acquire at the hand of; with reference to offerings הִקְרִיב מִיַּד Leviticus 22:25 (H), רָצָה מִיֵּד (י׳ subject) Malachi 1:10, Malachi 1:13; רָצוֺן מִיַּד לָקַח Malachi 2:13.

h. עַל־יד(י)ׅ : —

(1) upon the hand(s) of תְּנָה אֹתוֺ עַליָֿדִי Genesis 42:37 = entrust him to me (E; literally put him upon my hand); חָ֑רֶב יַגִּירֻהוּ עַליְֿדֵיֿ Psalm 63:11 [Psalm 63:10] they shall pour him out upon the hands of the sword = deliver him up to the sword; so Jeremiah 18:21; Ezekiel 35:5;

(2) עַליַֿד, עַליְֿדֵי according to the hand(s) of = at the guidance, direction of: עַליַֿד 1 Chronicles 25:2a; 2 Chronicles 26:13; עַליְֿדֵי Jeremiah 5:31; Jeremiah 33:13, and especially Chronicles: 1 Chronicles 25:2b; 1 Chronicles 25:3, 1 Chronicles 25:6 (twice in verse); עַליְֿדֵי דָוִיד 2 Chronicles 23:18; Ezra 3:10; עַליְֿדֵי כְּלִי דָוִיד 2 Chronicles 29:27 according to the guidance of the instruments of David;

(3) by the side of, way הַשַּׁעַר עַליַֿד דֶּרֶךְ 2 Samuel 15:2; river עַליַֿד (היארׅ Exodus 2:5 (E), Numbers 13:29 (J E; || עַלהַֿיָּם), Jeremiah 46:6; Daniel 10:4; city Joshua 15:46 (JE); person)= in the company of) 2 Samuel 15:18; people 2 Chronicles 21:16; especially late עַליַֿד next to (in a series) 2 Chronicles 17:15, 2 Chronicles 17:16, 2 Chronicles 17:18; 2 Chronicles 31:15; Nehemiah 3:2 (twice in verse) + 13 times Nehemiah 3; Nehemiah 13:13; עַליְֿדֵי by the side of Judges 11:26; people עַליְֿדֵי (אדוםׅ Numbers 34:3 (P), 1 Chronicles 7:29; cattle Job 1:14; שִׁיר הֶעֱמִיד עַליְֿדֵי 1 Chronicles 6:16 [1 Chronicles 6:31] he stationed them by the side of song, i.e. to watch over the singing.

i. תַּחַת יַד under the hand = in the possession, at the disposal of; וגו'חֲנִית ־תַחַת־יָֽדְךָ יֶשׁ־פֹּה וְאִין 1 Samuel 21:9 [1 Samuel 21:8]; = in the power of, subject to Isaiah 3:6 come, thou shalt be our ruler and this ruin under thy hand; plural followed by verb, וְהִתְעַנִּי תַּחַת יָדֶיהָ Genesis 16:9 (J) and submit thyself under her hands, her authority, Isaiah 3:6. — מִתַּחַת יַד see g. (1) above, and below תַּחַת. **For מִתַּחַת יַך, 2 Kings 8:20; 2 Kings 8:22)= 2 Chronicles 21:8; 2 Chronicles 21:10), 2 Chronicles 13:5 [2 Chronicles 13:5]; 2 Chronicles 17:7.
