“Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites, and Jebusites.”

“and I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and to bring them from that land to a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey ​— ​the territory of the Canaanites, Hethites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.

“And I have promised you that I will bring you up from the misery of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites, Hethites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites ​— ​a land flowing with milk and honey.

“When the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, Hethites, Amorites, Hivites, and Jebusites,[fn] which he swore to your ancestors that he would give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, you must carry out this ceremony in this month.

“For my angel will go before you and bring you to the land of the Amorites, Hethites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites, and Jebusites, and I will wipe them out.

“I will send an angel ahead of you and will drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hethites, Perizzites,[fn] Hivites, and Jebusites.

“Observe what I command you today. I am going to drive out before you the Amorites, Canaanites, Hethites, Perizzites, Hivites,[fn] and Jebusites.

“The Amalekites are living in the land of the Negev; the Hethites, Jebusites, and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live by the sea and along the Jordan.”

“When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess, and he drives out many nations before you ​— ​the Hethites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites, seven nations more numerous and powerful than you ​— ​

When all the kings heard about Jericho and Ai, those who were west of the Jordan in the hill country, in the Judean foothills,[fn] and all along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea toward Lebanon ​— ​the Hethites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites ​— ​

the Canaanites in the east and west, the Amorites, Hethites, Perizzites, and Jebusites in the hill country, and the Hivites at the foot of Hermon in the land of Mizpah.

From there the border ascended Ben Hinnom Valley to the southern Jebusite slope (that is, Jerusalem) and ascended to the top of the hill that faces Hinnom Valley on the west, at the northern end of Rephaim Valley.

But the descendants of Judah could not drive out the Jebusites who lived in Jerusalem. So the Jebusites still live in Jerusalem among the descendants of Judah today.

The border descended to the foot of the hill that faces Ben Hinnom Valley at the northern end of Rephaim Valley. It ran down Hinnom Valley toward the south Jebusite slope and downward to En-rogel.

Zela, Haeleph, Jebus[fn] (that is, Jerusalem), Gibeah, and Kiriath[fn] ​— ​fourteen cities, with their settlements.

This was the inheritance for Benjamin’s descendants by their clans.

“ ‘You then crossed the Jordan and came to Jericho. Jericho’s citizens ​— ​as well as the Amorites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hethites, Girgashites, Hivites, and Jebusites ​— ​fought against you, but I handed them over to you.

At the same time the Benjaminites did not drive out the Jebusites who were living in Jerusalem. The Jebusites have lived among the Benjaminites in Jerusalem to this day.

But they settled among the Canaanites, Hethites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.

When they were near Jebus and the day was almost gone, the servant said to his master, “Please, why not let us stop at this Jebusite city and spend the night here? ”

He said that day, “Whoever attacks the Jebusites must go through the water shaft to reach the lame and the blind who are despised by David.”[fn] For this reason it is said, “The blind and the lame will never enter the house.”[fn]

Then the angel extended his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, but the LORD relented concerning the destruction and said to the angel who was destroying the people, “Enough, withdraw your hand now! ” The angel of the LORD was then at the threshing floor of Araunah[fn] the Jebusite.

Gad came to David that day and said to him, “Go up and set up an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.”

As for all the peoples who remained of the Amorites, Hethites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, who were not Israelites ​— ​

as well as the Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites,

David and all Israel marched to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus); the Jebusites who inhabited the land were there.

David said, “Whoever is the first to kill a Jebusite will become chief commander.” Joab son of Zeruiah went up first, so he became the chief.

Then God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it, but when the angel was about to destroy the city,[fn] the LORD looked, relented concerning the destruction, and said to the angel who was destroying the people, “Enough, withdraw your hand now! ” The angel of the LORD was then standing at the threshing floor of Ornan[fn] the Jebusite.

So the angel of the LORD ordered Gad to tell David to go and set up an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

At that time, David offered sacrifices there when he saw that the LORD answered him at the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

Then Solomon began to build the LORD’s temple in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah where the LORD[fn] had appeared to his father David, at the site David had prepared on the threshing floor of Ornan[fn] the Jebusite.

As for all the peoples who remained of the Hethites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, who were not from Israel ​— ​

After these things had been done, the leaders approached me and said, “The people of Israel, the priests, and the Levites have not separated themselves from the surrounding peoples whose detestable practices are like those of the Canaanites, Hethites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians, and Amorites.

You found his heart faithful in your sight,

and made a covenant with him

to give the land of the Canaanites,

Hethites, Amorites, Perizzites,

Jebusites, and Girgashites —

to give it to his descendants.

You have fulfilled your promise,

for you are righteous.

I will remove the blood from their mouths

and the abhorrent things

from between their teeth.

Then they too will become a remnant for our God;

they will become like a clan in Judah

and Ekron like the Jebusites.
