At this, some of the scribes said to themselves, “He’s blaspheming! ”

Then the high priest tore his robes and said, “He has blasphemed! Why do we still need witnesses? See, now you’ve heard the blasphemy.

Those who passed by were yelling insults at[fn] him, shaking their heads

“Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven for all sins and whatever blasphemies they utter.

to be self-controlled, pure, workers at home, kind, and in submission to their husbands, so that God’s word will not be slandered.

to slander no one, to avoid fighting, and to be kind, always showing gentleness to all people.

Don’t they blaspheme the good name that was invoked over you?

Bold, arrogant people! They are not afraid to slander the glorious ones;

But these people, like irrational animals ​— ​creatures of instinct born to be caught and destroyed ​— ​slander what they do not understand, and in their destruction they too will be destroyed.

In the same way these people ​— ​relying on their dreams ​— ​defile their flesh, reject authority, and slander glorious ones.

But these people blaspheme anything they do not understand. And what they do understand by instinct ​— ​like irrational animals ​— ​by these things they are destroyed.

It began to speak[fn] blasphemies against God: to blaspheme his name and his dwelling ​— ​those who dwell in heaven.
