“The ax is already at the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written:
He will give his angels orders concerning you,
and they will support you with their hands
so that you will not strike
your foot against a stone.”
As he was walking along the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter), and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the sea — for they were fishermen.
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt should lose its taste, how can it be made salty?[fn] It’s no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.
“Reach a settlement quickly with your adversary while you’re on the way with him to the court, or your adversary will hand you over to the judge, and the judge to[fn] the officer, and you will be thrown into prison.
“If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of the parts of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
“And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of the parts of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.
“If that’s how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won’t he do much more for you — you of little faith?
“Don’t give what is holy to dogs or toss your pearls before pigs, or they will trample them under their feet, turn, and tear you to pieces.
Just then some men[fn] brought to him a paralytic lying on a stretcher. Seeing their faith, Jesus told the paralytic, “Have courage, son, your sins are forgiven.”
“And no one puts[fn] new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the skins burst, the wine spills out, and the skins are ruined. No, they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.”
“Don’t assume that I came to bring peace on the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
“They will throw them into the blazing furnace where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a large net thrown into the sea. It collected every kind of fish,
“and when it was full, they dragged it ashore, sat down, and gathered the good fish into containers, but threw out the worthless ones.

He answered, “It isn’t right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”
“But, so we won’t offend them, go to the sea, cast in a fishhook, and take the first fish that you catch. When you open its mouth you’ll find a coin.[fn] Take it and give it to them for me and you.”

“But he wasn’t willing. Instead, he went and threw him into prison until he could pay what was owed.
Jesus answered them, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you tell this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will be done.
The chief priests took the silver and said, “It’s not permitted to put it into the temple treasury, since it is blood money.”

When she went back to her home, she found her child lying on the bed, and the demon was gone.
So he took him away from the crowd in private. After putting his fingers in the man’s ears and spitting, he touched his tongue.
“And many times it has thrown him into fire or water to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”
“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to fall away — it would be better for him if a heavy millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.

Sitting across from the temple treasury, he watched how the crowd dropped money into the treasury. Many rich people were putting in large sums.
Summoning his disciples, he said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.
“For they all gave out of their surplus, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had — all she had to live on.”
Then some began to spit on him, to blindfold him, and to beat him, saying, “Prophesy! ” The temple servants also took him and slapped him.
Then they crucified him and divided his clothes, casting lots for them to decide what each would get.
“The ax is already at the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”
So he took him to Jerusalem, had him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here.
“And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins, it will spill, and the skins will be ruined.
