Strong’s Definitions [?](Strong’s Definitions Legend)
ἀπόχρησις apóchrēsis, ap-okh'-ray-sis; from a compound of G575 and G5530; the act of using up, i.e. consumption:—using.
STRONGS G671:
ἀπόχρησις, -εως, , (ἀποχράομαι to use to the full, to abuse), abuse, misuse: Colossians 2:22 ἐστιν πάντα εἰς φθορὰν τῇ ἀποχρήσει "all which (i. e. things forbidden) tend to destruction (bring destruction) by abuse"; Paul says this from the standpoint of the false teachers, who in any use of those things whatever saw an "abuse," i. e. a blameworthy use. In opposition to those who treat the clause as parenthetical and understand ἀπόχρησις to mean consumption by use (a being used up, as in Plutarch, moral., p. 267f. [quaest. Rom. 18]), so that the words do not give the sentiment of the false teachers but Paul's judgment of it, very similar to that set forth in Matthew 15:17; 1 Corinthians 6:13, cf. DeWette at the passage. [But see Meyer, Ellicott, Lightfoot.]
